A Short Day for Engel

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Ari Engel bought in at the beginning of the day, but his seat is vacant by now, having lost all of his chips early on.

Bryan Paris, his former neighbor, filled us in on the details. Already down to about fifteen big blinds, Engel shoved from the small blind. Paris called from the big blind with {6-}{6-} and was up against the {Q-}{7-} of Engel. The board ran out {3-}{4-}{5-}{3-}{8-} and Engel hit the rail.

Tomorrow, the €10,000 High Roller gets underway, an event Engel might want to sign up for.

Goldenbelt Eliminated

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Players keep on busting, of the 126 that started today, 110 remain right now. The latest victim of this trend is Marcel Goldenbelt. He was seen on the rail talking to Rens Feenstra.

Goldenbelt told us he squeezed all in for his last 30,000 with {K-}{Q-} suited. The initial raiser folded but the caller called with {A-}{Q-}. Goldenbelt failed to catch a king or other cards that could help him and was assigned a spot on the rail.

Minten Eliminated

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Another player on the rail was Niek Minten. He told us how he busted in the second hand of the day. After Bryan Paris opened and Teun Mulder three-bet, Minten shoved with pocket kings for 28,500. Paris shoved over the top and Mulder folded. Paris had pocket aces and Minten didn't find any help on the flop, turn, or river.

Another Two Bite the Dust

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Clyde Tjauw Foe saw the button raise. With 37,000 in the big blind, he shoved holding {4-}{4-}. The button called and hit with {A-}{K-}.

Jans Arends was down to eight big blinds and saw the small blind shove. Arends called with {Q-}{5-} off which proved to be a small favorite as his neighbor had {9-}{7-} off. The small blind hit a seven on the flop and that was it for Arends.

Jasper Meijer van Putten
Jasper Meijer van Putten

Sebastiaan de Jonge opened the button for 3,200 and small blind Jasper Meijer van Putten three-bet to 15,000. The big blind folded, De Jonge called.

Meijer van Putten bet 9,000 on {2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and De Jonge called. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn saw both players check before the {K-Diamonds} completed the board. Meijer van Putten thought about it for a bit, counted his stack, and moved all in for about 85,000. De Jonge checked his cards one more time before tossing them in the muck.

Claas Segebrecht, who defeated a field of 285 entries here last year to take home €235,087 ($276,804) has just been eliminated from this year's Main Event.

David Peters, who flew in this morning, told us he had reshoved on Simone Strookman. Strookman had aces and called, leaving Segebrecht and his pocket nines in a tough spot. No help for Segebrecht and he exited the tournament area.
