Sergei Petrushevskii Soars to Top With 16 Remaining in $2,200 Global Poker Championship
It was a frantic start to Day 2 of the $2,200 Global Poker Championship, running at the Merit Crystal Cove Casino as part of the 2026 Mediterranean Poker Party, with new players jumping in from an ad-hoc Day 1e flight and nearly half the field busting during the first two levels. When the dust settled, Sergei Petrushevskii soared to the top with just 16 players remaining.
Petrushevskii doubled up during the first level on Day 1a and scored a double-knockout to close out the starting flight as chip leader. Although his stack fluctuated, a remarkably calm and calculated performance meant that Petrushevskii never really lost momentum. He finished Day 2 in a similar fashion... by winning a huge pot. Petrushevskii made a massive call to a river shove with a straight on a paired board to bag for 13,245,000. He is now on track for his biggest ever score.
Yilu Yuan is the player who is best positioned to put an end to Petrushevskii's run. Yuan was highly active during the later levels, eliminating two contenders as the field was reduced from three tables to bag in second place with 11,045,000. Yuan came fourth in the NOIR Poker Series Merit Poker Cup earlier in the year, so will likely be feeling confident as he aims for another final table run.
End of Day 2 Chip Counts
Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Fahredin Mustafov (5,200,000) is still in contention. Mustafov's biggest ever score came from a first place finish in the 2025 Onyx SHRS Main Event, adding $1,300,000 to his total tournament winnings of over $12.2 million. Despite sitting in the middle of the pack, he'll be one to watch on Day 3.
Other notables still in contention include Adrian State (4,100,000), who has over $2.6 million in tournament winnings, and is more than capable of locking up first place finishes in major events, having done so several times in the past. Selahaddin Bedir (3,570,000), 2026 NOIR Poker Series Main Event winner, sits close behind.
All 16 of the remaining hopefuls still have a shot at the $300,000 top prize.

Day 3 commences at the newly scheduled start time of 1 p.m. September 20. Blind levels start at 60-minutes, with a break every two levels, although levels will be reduced as players are eliminated at the final table. By the end of Day 3, a champion will be crowned.
