Day 1b of the 2024 Merit Poker Gatsby Gala Series $3,300 Main Event here at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino is set to kick off today at noon local time. Russia's Mikhail Zavoloka the way from the first starting flight, finishing Day 1a with an impressive 667,000 chips. A new group of contenders will try to replicate that success in today's Day 1b flight.

Day 1b will feature the same structure as yesterday's Day 1a. Players will start with 100,000 chips and play nine 60-minute levels. There will be a break after every two levels. Unlimited reentries and late registration will be available until the end of Level 14 on Day 2.
Those who bag and tag at the end of the night will join the survivors from yesterday's flight in advancing to Day 2 on November 28, Before that, there will be two more starting flights, with Day 1c beginning at noon local time on November 27 and a turbo Day 1d set to begin at 7:30 p.m. the same day.

With two players seeing a board of 6♥K♣3♦J♠ and around 2,500 in the middle, Mustafa Ercan bet 1,200 from the small blind and Fabio Peluso called in the big blind.
Ercan checked the 3♣ turn and Peluso bet 1,500. Ercan made the call.
Peluso was bluffing with 5♣2♣ for a missed gutshot while Ercan tabled K♦9♥ for top pair to take the pot.

Alessio Isaia opened to 1,500 from the cutoff and Sofia Merkulova defended from the big blind.
The flop came A♥2♥K♣ and Merkulova check-called a 2,500 continuation-bet from Isaia.
Merkulova check-called another bet from Isaia on the 8♥ turn, this time for 4,000.
On the 4♦ river Merkulova checked and Isaia bet 10,000. Merkulova made the call.
Isaia turned over the nut-flush with K♥Q♥ and took down a sizable early pot.

Alisa Sibgatova opened to 1,100 from under the gun and received a call from Aleksandr Chernikov in the hijack before Ehsan Ghaeli three-bet to 5,600 from the button. Alfred Nader called in the big blind, Sibgatova folded and Chernikov called.
The flop came 10♣9♠3♥ and action checked around to Ghaeli who bet 8,500. Both opponents made the call.
All three players then checked the 3♦ turn and 2♠ river. Nader showed top pair with J♠10♠ but Ghaeli had an overpair with K♠K♥ to win the hand.
