Van De Geer Ousted by Samuel

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

All the chips went in preflop and Leendert Van De Geer was the one with his tournament life on the line and he was in with the worst of it.

Mika Samuel: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Leendert Van De Geer: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The {7-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop hit for Van De Geer but the {10-Clubs} turn turned things on their head, giving Samuel broadway. There was no ace to chop on the {q-Clubs} river, sending Van De Geer out the door.

Basbaydar Puts Mason in a Difficult Spot

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Following an under-the-gun open and a flat call from Firat Basbaydar, Jen Mason three-bet to 12,500. It folded round to the initial raiser who passed and the action was on Basbaydar who moved all in. Mason used most of her 30 seconds of time to think it through before electing to let it go.

Their table had seen some heavy preflop action of late but not for any longer, as the tournament director has just broken the table.

Kassa Chipping Away

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Getnet Kassa has come close to bagging for Day 2 in previous flights this week. In fact, last night he busted the final hand of the tournament after his pocket aces were cracked by ace-ten suited, with all the chips going in preflop.

Today he is back and he has built a stack already. He just added another decent chunk to it after a player ran {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} into his {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} preflop, with Kassa holding through the {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board.

Chung Barrels

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Yiu Chung continues to build his stack. The latest of his chips have come in a hand that was already on the flop with {9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts} down.

One player checked to Chung, who bet 5,300 and his opponent called. The turn was the {j-Spades} and Chung barreled for 16,500. The bet proved too much for his opponent, who let it go and that pot takes Chung over the 100k mark now.

Samuel Wins Flip

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Mika Samuel was all in against one opponent and was flipping for the 40,000 or so pot with {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} against {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. The runout came {4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and the pot brings Samuel stack in line with the average.

Bateson Finds a Call

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

All the community cards were down and Graeme Bester and Justin Bateson were looking at a {9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} board. Bateson checked and Bester bet 9,000 on the one-card-straight possibility board. Bateson didn't seem too happy about it but made the call anyway and it turned out to be the right decision, with his pair of tens good.

Fine Out

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Despite a strong start in the early levels of the day, the last hour or so proved to be problematic for Julie Fine, who saw her 90,000-chip stack dwindle before she was eliminated just before the break. There are still around two hours of late registration available if she wants to take another stab at winning a PSPC 2020 Platinum Pass.

Clouden with the Chip Lead

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A quick scout around the room after players have returned from their break and one player has moved ahead of the pack: Patrick Clouden. Interestingly, Clouden was previously spent a year working as an intern on the PokerStars podcast team. The first four hours of play have seen Clouden rise to well over 200,000, a feat no other player has achieved yet.
