Moneymaker Folds Kings, Pays House in Swift Succession

Level 10 : 800/1,500, 1,500 ante
Chris Moneymaker, in Early Full Costume
Chris Moneymaker, in Early Full Costume

A couple of sizeable hands have seen Chris Moneymaker's stack decline this level. The first hand was caught on the river with a bet of 20,000 in front of Moneymaker (and a similar-sized pot). A ten had arrived last to complete the board: {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}. Steve Lewis swiftly moved in for around 50,000 in total.

"Did you catch pocket tens?" queried Moneymaker (no reply). He folded {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} face-up, at which Lewis opted to reveal his {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a rivered two pair.

"That was the other option," Moneymaker said.

The next hand, Moneymaker opened to 3,300, picking up two in-position callers and Saifur Chowdhury in the big blind.

Flop: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. Check to Moneymaker, who bet 5,000, called by Lewis and Chowdhury. All three players checked the {7-Spades} turn. On the {8-Spades} river, Chowdhury bet out 10,000 and Moneymaker alone flicked in the call, but mucked when he saw his opponent's {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the turned full house. With that hand, a new contender for Day 1b chip leader arises in the form of Chowdhury.

Recently Relegated to the Rail

Level 10 : 800/1,500, 1,500 ante
Jeff Kimber- also out of Day 1b
Jeff Kimber- also out of Day 1b

David Thomas did not last out the level after that crucial flip, and he was most recently joined by Paula Hautvast, whose story we overheard: it was a case of {a-}{k-} in the big blind, a short stack and a preflop open and call in front of her; she couldn't out-flop (or turn or river) pocket eights (belonging to Di Farrell), and we're down to four tables.

Spike for Thomas, Re-Spike for Scialo

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Filippo Scialo has doubled through David Thomas after another all-in preflop confrontation. He moved in for just under 35,000 over the top of Thomas' early position open to 4,000, and Thomas, slightly covering him, made the call.

Thomas: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Scialo: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

The flop paired Thomas' king: {j-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{2-Spades}; the table made a collective "ooh" sound as the {6-Hearts} came on the turn. The {2-Diamonds} river was irrelevant and Scialo doubles to an average stack while Thomas is nearly felted.

Walton, Once Near the Top, Needed Recent Double

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Alexander Walton, well-stacked in the early levels, found himself all in and called preflop for 23,900 just now, albeit with the overpair of {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} to Daniel Taylor's {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Taylor had opened for 3,000 and thrown in the call to see a board of {4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} change nothing.

Chip Updates, Table 5

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Level: 9

Blinds: 600/1,200

Ante: 1,200

Updated Chip Counts, Level 8

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

There are just 20 minutes left for late/re-registration on this Day 1b of the Main Event. The frequency at which busted players re-take seats has noticeably dropped off this level, and it'll be zero after the upcoming break.

The last two levels have been productive for Chris Moneymaker, who now has a stack of over 120,000, while Luc Connor-Hartley and Alexander Scales (having recovered from his Foggin incident) are leading the pack.

Simmons Out-Races Tinlin

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Alan Tinlin has bust, losing a final all-in-preflop flip for around 24,000 with {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} vs. the {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} of Paul Simmons, who waited until the turn of the {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board to spike his ace.

The other chip counts above are for Simmons' remaining tablemates.
