Mercier Sniffs Out a Problem

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier
We're just a few minutes from the next break, and Jason Mercier will have gone into having dodged a huge land mine. It was a little unclear how the action started. An early position player was in the pot. Mercier had 2,200 chips in front of him in late position, with the player to his left just calling that raise. The first player in the hand then put in another raise, to 7,300 total.

Mercier, sitting behind about 50,000 chips, tanked for several minutes, having cut out calling chips from his stacks. Twice he seemed as if he were about to put those chips in the pot before thinking better of the iea. He finally folded.

The player behind Mercier then raised all in for about 18,000 and was called. He had {a-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}, which held up against the early-position player's {K-Clubs} {J-Spades}.

Battle of the Big Stacks

Lars Bonding
Lars Bonding
We missed the action before the river, but arrived to catch Melanie Weisner checking a {9-Spades} {7-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {2-Hearts} board. Lars Bonding bet 10,500, and Weisner called. He tabled {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}, and trip nines was good for the pot. The hand boosted Bonding to over 125,000, leaving Weisner with a still top ten 110,000.

Durrrr's Stack Dwindling

With the board reading {8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, Tom Dwan check-called a bet of 2,150 from his opponent.

Both checked when the {10-Diamonds} hit the turn and Dwan checked the {7-Hearts} river card. His opponent fired 5,800 and "durrrr" didn't appear thrilled, but made the call anyway.

His opponent tabled {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for a rivered full house and Dwan mucked, dropping to just over 10,000.

Double Up for Santos

Ross Santos just doubled up after flopping top set of sixes and getting his money in against a player holding top pair and a gutshot straight draw. Santos' set of sixes held and he doubled to just over 50,000 chips.

Stein in the Danger Zone

Sam Stein
Sam Stein
We haven't called NAPT Venetian runner-up Sam Stein's name much today. His initial stack of 30,000 chips has shrunk to about 10,000, which is starting to look small with blinds at 200 and 400.

Stein tried raising his button to 925 in a recent hand and was called by the big blind. Both players checked the {A-Clubs} {5-Spades} {2-Hearts} flop. Stein called 1,500 from the big blind on the {8-Clubs} turn, then both players checked when a third club, {K-Clubs}, hit the river. The big blind's top pair, {A-Diamonds} {10-Spades}, was good enough to win the pot.

Bardah's Aces Cracks, but Takes One Back from Guillen After

Ronnie "Ronasty" Bardah
Ronnie "Ronasty" Bardah
Ronnie Bardah rode a little roller coaster recently after his aces got cracked by a short stack's {J-?}{10-?} in all-in preflop action. The board ran out {A-?}{K-?}{2-?}{Q-?}{4-?} and the player made broadway.

That pot cost him about 7,000 chips, but he then was able to win some back from Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen a short while later.

A player limped and then Guillen raised to 1,400. Bardah called on the button as did the limper. The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and action checked around.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and the first player checked. Guillen fired 2,200 and Bardah called. The other player folded.

The river completed the board with the {4-Diamonds} and Guillen checked. Bardah fired 3,200 and got a call from Guillen. Bardah tabled the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Guillen mucked, moving Bardah back up to 37,000 and change.

Small Pot for Negreanu

The under-the-gun player raised to 1,000 and was called by Daniel Negreanu in middle position. The player on the button called as well and the three of them saw the flop roll out {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

It was checked to the player on the button and he bet 1,000. Negreanu was the lone caller, leading to the {4-Clubs} turn card. Both players checked, delivering the {9-Spades} on the river. Negreanu bet 1,500 and really frustrated his opponent with the bet. After a few minutes of mumbling, his opponent called.

Negreanu tabled {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and it was good, upping his stack to about 40,000.
