Israelashvili Busto

A few weeks ago Roland Israelashvili won the $5,000 WSOP Circuit Event at Caesars in Atlantic City. He won't get as good a result here at NAPT Mohegan Sun. After Tab Duchateau opened from the button for 13,000 and Taha Maruf called in the small blind, Israelashvili moved in for an additional 63,500 from the big blind. Duchateau folded, but Maruf made a pained call with {5-Clubs} {5-Spades}. He was flipping against Israelashvili's {A-?} {Q-?}. Fives held on a board of {2-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} {2-Clubs}.

No Stopping Selbst

Jordan Morgan takes a hit.
Jordan Morgan takes a hit.
Jordan Morgan raised to 12,000 in middle position and was called by Steven Goosen on the button, Daryl Jace in the small blind, and Vanessa Selbst in the big blind.

The flop came down {6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and it was checked to Morgan. He bet 33,000, Goosen and Jace folded, and Selbst made the call. Both checked the {4-Diamonds} turn and Selbst bet 58,000 when the {8-Clubs} hit the river.

Morgan called and Selbst tabled {10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, winning the pot and crossing the 1.2 million chip mark. Morgan slips to 540,000.

Madsen Makes His Exit

Madsen rolls out
Madsen rolls out
Jeff Madsen was crippled to 17,000. After stealing some blinds, he was up to five bigs in the big blind but folded to a raise. Dennis Phillips raised the cutoff, and Madsen also surrendered his small blind. Finally he made his only move when action folded to him on the button. Francis Vizza in the small blind overshoved (barely) for a total of 29,500. And in the big blind, Tab Duchateau made the call. "Yes!" cheered Madsen, hoping for a triple up, having picked up a far better hand than he needed to open shove the button. But he wasn't so pleased when he saw the Vizza's hand.

Showdown
Madsen: {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} - covered by Vizza and Duchateau
Vizza: {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} - covered by Duchateau
Duchateau: {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts}

"Gimme a hug," Madsen said to Vizza when they tabled their cards. And Vizza obliged. The board ran out {10-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {5-Clubs}, sending Madsen to the rail with a shake of his head. He's off to prep for his trip to Israel. He's off in a week to try to win a prop bet in which he must live in Israel until the World Series to win $50,000.

Lauria Doubles

Bob Lauria doubled up recently to about 220,000 chips. Dale Jamison raised to 12,000 and Vincent Rubianes flat-called. Lauria jammed about 90,000 into the middle with two aces and Jamison made the call with {K-?}{Q-?}. Rubiances got out of the way.

Lauria's aces held up and he earned the double.

Marcello Del Grosso checked the flop of {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to Vanessa Selbst. She fired a bet and then Del Grosso raised. Selbst made the call.

The turn card brought the {Q-Spades} and Del Grosso jammed for about a pot-sized bet. Selbst made the call. She held {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} against Del Grosso's {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}.

The river was the {8-Diamonds} and Selbst won the pot. She now has over 1.1 million chips and is cruising along strong. Del Grosso was eliminated on the hand.

Selbst Surging; Bonding Busto

Selbst boosts Bonding's chips.
Selbst boosts Bonding's chips.
Vanessa Selbst raised to 11,500 in the cutoff and Lars Bonding made it 31,000 to play from the small blind. Bahador Ahmadi folded his big blind and Selbst asked for a count of Bonding's stack.

Lars said he had 166,000 behind and Selbst went all in. Bonding quickly called all in and tabled {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}. Selbst was behind with {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, but got there when the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, making a flush. "Sorry," she said to Bonding. "It's OK," replied Bonding graciously shaking her hand and leaving the table. "This is my tournament," she said, "I get it in bad and win."

Bonding is out in 94th place while Selbst is at the top of the chip counts with about 840,000.

Madsen: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Madsen was left with just 17,000 chips.

Priest Shoots Down Velsen

William Priest opened to 25,000 (five times the big blind) from middle position before Paul Van Velsen moved all in from the next seat for about 120,000. When action folded back around to Priest, he quickly called with two red aces. Velsen held {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Priest earned the elimination of Velsen.

Procopio Doesn't Realize He's Eliminated

Down to 43,000 chips, Vincent Procopio was looking for action. He moved all in and was pleased when the player on the button called.

"Beautiful!" he said. "Thank you. Someone else call too." Nobody else did.

"I've got a pair," said Procopio, showing {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds}.

"We're racing," replied his opponent. He opened {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}.

"Let's race then," Procopio said with a smile. On the {6-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} flop, he remarked, "I got by that." He repeated that statement on the {9-Diamonds} turn, then added, "No six!"

The river fell {J-Hearts} to give Procopio's opponent a flush. He didn't see it and sat back down at the table, thinking that his 4s had held up. It took about 30 seconds before the dealer pointed out the flush.

Procopio was very good-natured about his error. "I'm just looking at the cards," he said with a laugh. "I didn't even see he was suited." He then shook hands withe veryone at the table and headed off to the payouts area.

Setback for Mizzi

At this stage of the game, even small setbacks hurt. Sorel Mizzi just doubled up Mark Ader for roughly 60,000 chips. Mizzi's {A-?} {Q-?} couldn't overtake Ader's {A-?} {K-?}. The loss knocked Mizzi's stack down to about 240,000, just slightly above par.
