The players are off for another ten-minute break.
A player under the gun opened with a mini-raise to 4,000, and the action came around to Eric "sheets" Haber in late position. Not seeing the first raise, he tried to make it 5,200, correcting himself with an emphatic "I call!" as he took back some change. Not to be outdone, the button squeezed in a raise to 12,000 straight, enough to fold the initial raiser. "I got myself into somethin' here," Haber said in a fine case of foreshadowing. "All right. Let's flop something good," he said as he splashed in the call.
The flop came down
, and the action went check-check, Haber with a puzzled look on his face. The
turn drew another puzzled look from Haber, but this time he led out with a bet of 15,000. His opponent promptly moved all in for 23,700, and Haber quickly called. He had indeed flopped something good with
, but he was already drawing dead as his opponent showed up the significantly better
.
The
river sealed the double up, taking a little sliver from Haber's stack. He's down to a still-healthy 215,000 now.
2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker has been eliminated from the tournament after his
failed to improve against pocket jacks.
With about 20,000 in the pot and a board reading

, the big blind checked and Jason Mericer bet 11,500. The big blind didn't take long to call and the
hit the river.
Once again the big blind checked to Mercier, who this time bet 25,200. The big blind called but tapped the table and mucked when he saw Mercier's
. Mercier is up to 165,000.
With approximately 25,000 chips in the middle, the board was

in a hand between Mike Sowers and Joseph Elpayaa. Sowers fired 14,900 on the turn and after a minute, Elpayaa made the call.
The river brought the
and Sowers thought for a few moments prior to betting out 38,900. Elpayaa tanked for a bit, but eventually folded his hand. Sowers showed the
with a big smile and won the pot. He's now up to 235,000 while Elpayaa dropped to 97,000.
Nick Grippo is still killing this thing. Upon last glance, Grippo has the chip lead by far in the tournament with 622,000 in chips. They're neatly stacked 30-chip towers in front of him. We'll see if he can hold onto them or if one of the other 189 players can do something about it.
We didn't catch all the details but recently learned that Chris Moneymaker doubled up a short stack when his pocket sixes ran into aces. Moneymaker is down to 37,000.
Action folded to Daniel Negreanu in middle position and he moved all in for his last 20,700. The next player to act was in the hijack and moved all in himself for a huge raise. The isolation worked as the blinds got out of the way.
Negreanu:

Hijack:

Negreanu was at risk and behind. The

flop changed nothing and the
on the turn gave Negreanu an open-ended straight draw. Unfortunately for him, the river was the
and he was eliminated from the NAPT Los Angeles.
