Level 24 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Maksim Shornikau
Maksim Shornikau

When it folded to Maksim Shornikau in the small blind, he immediately jammed for 855,000, and Alex Kulev called in the big blind.

Maksim Shornikau: QJ All in
Alex Kulev: Q9

Shornikau just had to fade a nine or some hearts to double up to a playable stack.

The dealer fanned out a favorable flop for Kulev in the form of 944, giving him top pair.

Shornikau couldn't find a jack on the 7 turn or Q river. Kulev pulled in the pot, and Shornikau was the next casualty of the final table in fifth place.

Alex Kulev raised to 200,000 in the hijack and Damir Gabdullin called in the cutoff. Alexey Borovkov then moved all in for 1,070,000 in the small blind and Kulev folded, but Gabdullin called to put Borovkov at risk.

Damir Gabdullin: 88

Borovkov needed to survive the flip to keep his tournament hopes alive. The 976 flop was no help, but the 3 turn gave him additional outs with a flush draw. The river, though, was the 7 and Gabdullin's eights held on to earn him the knockout.

Kulev Blasts Shornikau Off a Chop

Level 23 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Maksim Shornikau raised to 160,000 in the cutoff before Fahredin Mustafov moved all in from the big blind with AQ. Shornikau folded A4.

A few hands later, Shornikau again opened to 160,000 under the gun with AJ and Alex Kulev called in the hijack holding AQ.

The flop came 965 and Shornikau continued for 240,000. Kulev called, and they both checked the 8 turn.

The 7 river put a straight on the board as Shornikau checked over to Kulev, who shoved all in.

"Floor, am I allowed to go to the bathroom while he's tanking. I really have to go?" Kulev yelled out to tournament officials as Shornikau went deep into the tank pondering the decision for his last 1,105,000. He burned through multiple time banks, but ended up surrendering the pot to Kulev.
