Early Exit for Zimmerman

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Joshua Zimmerman
Joshua Zimmerman

Joshua Zimmerman is becoming a regular player here in Macau. The American Lawyer who is based in Hong Kong has cashed twice in Macau events this year, marking the only two cashes on his résumé so far.

Unfortunately for him, he'll need to re-enter this Main Event if he's going to add an OPC cash to that list. Picking up the action on a {4-Hearts}{a-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} board with a 12,500 pot already out there, Yongbin Wang checked to Zimmerman and he fired for 8,500. Wang was thinking for a good minute or so before he made the call.

The {7-Hearts} river completed the board, and Wang checked again. Zimmerman snap-shoved all-in for his remaining 19,650, and this time Wang would call very quickly.

Zimmerman: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Wang: {a-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Wang had turned a full house, which left Zimmerman drawing very thin. He made his exit, while Wang now stacks up 87,000.

The Man With No Name

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

After a player opened under the gun to 600, Phanlert Sukonthachartnant called one seat over, as did Hao Xiang in the hijack and Binrui Wang in the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and it checked through to the {6-Hearts} turn. Wang now took the betting lead for 1,325, and his only caller was the original pre-flop raiser.

The two then saw the {10-Spades} complete the board, and Wang continued firing for 3,500. That bet was called, and Wang turned over {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a rivered broadway straight. Frustrated, the other player shook his head as he mucked.

The reason we don't have a name for him is because he busted and made a swift exit in the very next hand. After a 625 open from Xiang, Wang called from the small blind before the man with no name moved all-in for his last 2,900. Xiang made the call, but Wang let it go.

Xiang had {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} versus {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and the board ran out {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, securing Xiang the pot and the KO. He's up to 43,000 now, while Wang has 38,000. While at the table, we also noticed a big stack of 73,000 belonging to Ning Sun, who is currently away from the table.

Two New Names For The List

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Thailand's all-time leading money winner Phanlert Sukonthachartnant has taken his seat in the Main Event. He busted the High Roller earlier today when his sixes full of queens were no good versus Chung Yuan Yu's queens full of sixes.

Andy Ying Kit Chan has also taken his seat. Chan's best score came back in 2012 when he second in the ACOP Main Event for HK$3,547,500 (~US$457,712).

Yu Says It Best

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Earlier today, President of the Poker King Club, Winfred Yu, delivered a passionate speech as part of the OPC 2018 opening ceremony. Here's a quick excerpt.

"We are here to fight for poker. In our sport, in our spirit, I wish you well in this tournament, and hope for the best."

The 7-2 Game

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Zhengjun Zhang made it 1,000 to go - a 5x open - from middle position. Everyone else folded.

So why is this worth reporting? Well, because after the hand Zhang slammed down the {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. But sorry, Zhengjun, the seven-deuce game is not being played in this tournament.
