Day 1a of the 2012 Sands Bethlehem DeepStack Extravaganzana Main Event has come to an end. Ten levels were played with re-entries allowed through Level 5 and in the end, there were a total of 70 entries. Only 25 made it through and leading the way is Chris Klodnicki with 228,000.

Klodnicki is followed by Daniel Wach (200,100) and Suraj Dalal (197,700). Others who survived the day were Tanner Millen (153,200), Scott Baumstein (111,500), and Ryan Riess (66,500).

Among those who fell short of making Day 2 were Matt Glantz, Theo Tran, Cherish Andrews, Dan Buzgon, and David Paredes. Chances are good that they will be right back at it tomorrow for Day 1b.

Thanks for keeping it here at PokerNews and be sure to follow along tomorrow for Day 1b, which is expected to gather about 100 entrants. Until then, goodnight from Bethlehem!

End-of-Day Chip Counts

Dalal Over 200K, Zemel at Zero

David Zemel
David Zemel

A short-stacked David Zemel pushed all in from middle position for about 8,000, another player reraised to 15,000, then Suraj Dalal reraised over the top from the blinds, forcing the third player to step aside.

Zemel showed {A-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Dalal {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}, and when the five community cards came {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, Zemel hit the rail as Dalal climbed up over the 200,000-chip mark.

Chris Klodnicki raised to 2,000 in the cutoff and Dixit Patel three-bet to 7,000 on the button. Naveen Chettipally four-bet all in for 13,225, chasing Klodnicki out. Patel called and they were off to the races.

Patel: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Chettipally: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{A-Hearts} as Chettipally made trips to double through Patel once again.

Baumstein and Dalal Clash

Scott Baumstein opened to 2,100 from early position and found calls from three players.

The flop fell {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Clubs} and action checked to Suraj Dalal who bet 5,100. The next player to act called, Alan Kraut check-folded, and Baumstein put in a check-raise to 15,000. Both of his opponents called to see the {7-Diamonds} turn where Baumstein bet 17,000. Dalal raised to 37,000, forcing a fold from the third player still in the pot.

"I can't see how you have a seven here," said Baumstein, "but I don't see how my king is good."

Baumstein flashed the {K-Hearts} as he folded his hand, while Dalal showed the {K-Clubs}.
