On Friday, a new mid-major poker tour officially launched with the inaugural Midway Poker Tour stop in the Chicagoland area. The second of two starting flights in the $1,100 buy-in, $100K GTD Main Event attracted 164 entries. At the end of the night, 19 remained led by Satoshi Tanaka and his stack of 710,000. This brings the total entries to 266 with 31 advancing to Day 2.
In addition to Tanaka, the other top five stacks include Amanda Heidbrick (446,000), Adam Thomas (377,000), Praise Ogwo (355,000), and Benjamin Craig (334,000).
The remaining 31 players advancing to Day 2 are in already in the money with a guaranteed payout of $2,300 and a top prize of $55,060.
Among those unable to advance from Day 1b were Howard Hankin, Bryan Skreens, Ryan Phan, Brian Barros, Ben Keeline, and Griff Woodman.

On the bubble of Day 1B, Satoshi Tanaka opened to 30,000 from middle position and Denian Costa moved all-in from the cut-off for 82,000. After getting a count and contemplating for a moment, Tanaka made the call and tabled . Costa flipped over .
The board ran out giving Tanaka the pot and sending Costa home on the bubble.

We came upon the action in a monster pot with one player betting 28,000 on a board of and was re-raised by Satoshi Tanaka to 62,000. The other player went all in for nearly 200,000 and was called by Tanaka.
Tanaka tabled and his opponent held . The board ran out giving Tanaka the flush and sending his opponent to the rail.
The win added to what was already the top stack in the room. Tanaka won the following two hands as well, building as the end of Day 1b looms.

With just three players left to fall before the end of Day 1b, which will also put players in the money, Nadya Magnus moved all in for approximately 90,000 from early position and action folded around to Frank Lagodich, who called from the big blind.

Magnus' best chance to survive was to either catch an ace or find some diamonds, but it didn't happen as the board ran out a dry to send her out late, similar to her run on Day 1a.

Kevin Maahs opened from middle position to 18,000 and was called by the players in the cutoff and big blind.
The flop of was checked by all three players.
The turn brought the and was checked by the big blind. Maahs then bet 27,000 and was called by the cutoff; the big blind folded.
After the dealer brought the river , Maahs bet 83,000 which was called by the cutoff.
Maahs tabled for a rivered straight and his opponent mucked.

Just before the level went up, a preflop raising war results in Sye Barton getting his stack of 122,000 all in against Adam Thomas and the two found themselves in a classic flip.

Barton was looking to hold and did so through both the flop and turn. Unfortunately for him, the spiked on the river, which improved him to a set but also gave Thomas the win with a Broadway straight.
