2026 African Poker Championship Tanzania
Level: 11
Blinds: 2,000/3,000
Ante: 3,000
The first two hours of play have boosted the field to 218 entries and there are 77 players remaining as they headed into the first 15-minute break of the day. During that time, the T-500 chips will be raced off as they are no longer needed for the rest of the tournament.
With the flop showing 9♦3♥2♥, Fabian Deppe had checked and Shazin Rehmtullah bet 12,500 for Marko Nortje to call in the next seat.
Deppe then check-jammed for 61,000 and Rehmtullah just called.
"I will fold, I think he has a set," Nortje said pointing to his table neighbour.
Fabian Deppe: J♥4♥
Shazin Rehmtullah: A♠A♥
The aces held on the 6♣ turn and J♠ river to send earlier big stack Deppe to the rail.
Rajeev Poonhath opened from under the gun and was then one of two players to call the short-stacked all-in of Kamlesh Mehta for 29,500 in the next seat, as Sugen Singh also flat-called in the small blind.
Both active players checked the 9♠9♣4♦ flop to the 5♥ turn. Singh checked again and then folded when Poonhath bet 7,000.
Kamlesh Mehta: A♦5♦
Rajeev Poonhath: 4♠4♥
Mehta needed a nine or five but the 8♦ river ended his run.
Poonhath chipped up to more than two starting stacks and has one more entry secured in case things don't go as planned, as he won one of today's flip not long ago.
Xianbin Li was all-in for 78,500 with the 6♣6♠ and Mark Tao looked him up holding the J♠J♣.
The board ran out 9♦7♦5♠7♥8♣ and Li spiked the straight on the river to survive.
Biru Asefa raised to 7,000 and Jay Kamli called for Jerome Bradpiece to then push for 56,500 on the button. Patrice Ah-Nien reraised to 200,000 in the small blind and isolated successfully.
Jerome Bradpiece: A♥Q♣
Patrice Ah-Nien: A♣K♥
Asefa said he had folded a "big pair" but the K♠K♦J♦ flop gave Ah-Nien trips. "Not that big," another player joked to Asefa.
The 3♣ turn and 8♦ river were blanks and Bradpiece departed.
With some 145,000 in the middle to the J♥9♥2♦3♣3♠ river, Harold Brooks jammed for 108,000. Praful Patwa asked for an exact count and reluctantly called.
"Good call," Brooks said as he exposed the 8♣8♠ for eights and treys. Patwa had that beat with the J♠10♥ to score the knockout.
