Note: chip counts do not carry over to Day 2
Dickinson was faced with an all-in shove against Sam Ho and called for 145,000 with a pair of nines, while Ho had straight and flush draws. Dickinson managed to dodge all of Ho’s outs and earned the double up. Burns, meanwhile, spiked two pair on the river against Joe DiCruttalo to earn his double up and vault up the leaderboard.
Keizo enjoyed a banner day inside the DoubleTree by Hilton in Milford, first making the final table of the $1,200 New England Poker Championship where he bowed out in seventh place for $6,000. He was multi-tabling this event at the same time and managed to bag up another big stack.
Wilmer Colon (453,000) brought the night to a close when he cracked Ho’s queens with a flush. Nancy St. Laurent (418,000), Sonya Harrison (395,000), Owen Balcarcel (166,000), and Kelly O’Hare (160,000) are also among those collecting $150 for advancing to Day 2.
The remaining 16 players will be joined by monthly leaderboard qualifiers, regional points leaders, and other wild card spots when action resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. The chip counts they ended today with won’t carry over, but instead each player will start the day with 100,000. Anyone who double-qualified for Day 2 gets an additional 100,000.
A champion of the 35th season of the Eastern Poker Tour will be crowned tomorrow, and PokerNews will be back to follow all the action and provide live updates.
Wilmer Colon raised to 60,000 in middle position before Sam Ho moved all in for 96,000 on the button. "Not much," he said as Colon confirmed the amount before calling.
Sam Ho: Q♦Q♠
Wilmer Colon: 9♣9♠
Ho had Colon dominated as the flop came K♣5♣3♣, but Colon hit a flush on the Q♣ turn. Ho needed the board to pair on the river to survive, but he missed the A♥ and was eliminated on the Day 1 bubble.
Ho slammed the table in frustration. "Why did you do that to me for?" he angrily told the dealer before getting a warning from a tournament official.
While Sam Ho was all in on the other table, Spencer Dickinson had opened to 100,000 under the gun and Richard Rollka called in the small blind.
Dickinson continued for 100,000 on the 8♥5♦3♥ flop, and Rollka called. The turn was the 7♣ and Dickinson moved all in.
Rollka quickly folded, and Dickinson took the pot that put him in contention for the chip lead.
Joe DiCruttalo raised to 80,000 in early position and Anthony Burns called in the big blind.
DiCruttalo continued for 75,000 on the A♥6♣J♦ flop, Burns raised to 150,000, and DiCruttalo called.
Burns checked the 9♥ turn and DiCruttalo moved all in. Burns snap-called for 105,000 with A♦2♦, while DiCruttalo turned over A♣3♣.
Both players were poised to chop the pot, but the 2♣ river gave Burns two pair and the double up as DiCruttalo shot out of his seat in frustration.
Rob Keizo raised to 60,000 in middle position before Sonya Harrison moved all in for 130,000 in the small blind. Keizo took a minute but eventually called to put Harrison at risk.
Sonya Harrison: A♣Q♠
Rob Keizo: Q♦9♦
Harrison had Keizo dominated, but the J♦K♥2♦ flop gave Keizo straight and flush draws. The 6♥ turn was safe for Harrison, while the 3♠ came on the river to give Harrison the double up.
"That was scary," Harrison said.
Dave Shankman busted at the same time on the other table, brining the field down to the bubble.
Level: 18
Blinds: 15,000/30,000
Ante: 30,000
Chris Small moved all in for 70,000 in the hijack and Wilmer Colon called in the big blind.
Chris Small: Q♠10♠
Wilmer Colon: 8♦7♦
Colon took the lead on the J♣8♣3♠ flop with a pair, while Small picked up a straight draw. The 6♠ turn also gave Small a flush draw, but he missed the 6♣ river and was sent to the rail.
With 18 players remaining, there are two more eliminations to go before the surviving players make it to Day 2.
Anthony Burns limped in from under the gun before Steve Miller raised to 85,000 in the small blind. Burns called, and they saw a flop of 3♥K♥9♦.
Both players checked to the 9♥ turn, where Miller moved all in for 62,000. Burns snap-called and turned over K♦J♠ for two pair, but Miller had A♣A♦.
The river was the Q♠ and Miller doubled up. "That was scary," tablemate Dave Shankman told him.
