Wes Gauthier Bags Overall Chip Lead After Two More Southern Poker Open Flights

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

Three flights down and two to go in the first-ever Southern Poker Open at the Horseshoe Bossier City.

Flight B saw 167 players enter the event, and 170 came to play in Flight C. That brings the total number of entries to the Southern Poker Open to 537 over three starting flights.

Wes Gauthier bagged the biggest overall stack (308,000) in Flight B, good enough for the overall chip leader thus far. In Flight C, Glen Sheffield topped the field by bagging 225,000, with Keith Lehr right behind with 223,500. Lehr had bagged 93,000 in Flight A, but decided to aim higher and managed to work up a top ten stack.

Ross Bybee made an appearance today, but fell short of securing his spot in Day 2. He is expected to be in the field tomorrow when the final two flights take off. The first flight Saturday is at 11 a.m. with the final flight scheduled for 6 p.m.

Another familiar face at the RGPS, Wadih Kaawar, came out to play today. Kaawar won one of the two Showbound seats during the last RunGood Poker Series season. Kaawar bagged up 71,000 chips at the end of Flight C.

Flight B saw 38 players bag up chips, with 37 more surviving Flight C. That brings the total Day 2 field to 112 and counting.

Roush Calls with a Flush that Isn't There

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

With two hands to go before the bags came out, Frankie Roush lost most of his chips to Glen Sheffield.

The board read {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades} and Sheffield bet 30,000. Roush tanked for two minutes and then called.

The river brought the {3-Spades}, and Sheffield moved all-in for his last 42,300. Roush snap-called, saying, "I've got the flush."

Roush turned up {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for queen high, confusing everyone at the table.

Sheffield tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for top two pair.

When Roush realized his mistake, he grabbed his forehead with both hands and exclaimed, "Oh my God, what am I doing?"

Roush busted on the last hand of the night when he ran into his opponent's deuces-full-of-fours.

Misenheimer Powers Through

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

A middle position player raised to 7,000 and got two callers from the button and small blind. Alan Meisenheimer in the big blind three-bet to 27,500. The original raiser folded; Frankie Roush called on the button; and the small blind folded.

The flop came {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, and Misenheimer immediately moved all-in for just over 40,000. Roush quickly folded {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} face up.

Racca Wins the Fun Way

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

It was a small pot that nevertheless provided all the twists of a daytime soap opera. Adam Racca opened the pot for 6,000 from under the gun and it folded back to the big blind, who called all-in for 5,000 total.

Racca - {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Opponent - {q-Spades}{3-Clubs}

"I have live cards, at least," Racca's opponent said.

The flop came {k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, which changed little, but the {q-Hearts} on the turn flipped the percentages. The river flipped them once and for all when the {j-Hearts} came on the river.

Gray Eliminates Rabideau

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The preflop action folded to Perry Gray in middle position and he raised to 8,000. Jonathan Rabideu, next to act, moved all in for 13,200.

"I'm curious to see what a 5x raise hand is," Rabideau mused.

Everyone folded back to Gray, who made the call.

Rabideau - {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Gray {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Neither player improved as the board ran out {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, and Rabideau was eliminated from Flight C.
