Day 2 of the First-Ever Patrik Antonius Poker Challenge Main Event Starts at Noon

Joris Ruijs spun his third bullet up to a top 5 stack
Joris Ruijs spun his third bullet up to a top 5 stack

At 12 p.m. local time, cards will be back in the air for the second of four days of the €1,500 Patrik Antonius Poker Challenge Main Event in the Olympic Park Casino at the Hilton Tallinn in the Baltic country of Estonia. A total of 128 entries were made on the first day, and 58 of them are still in contention when play resumes in level 9 with blinds at 500/1,000.

Late registration will be open for one more level and for those interested to jump in at the last possible second a fresh stack of 30,000, or 30 big blinds awaits. Once the level is over, late registration will close and the full prize pool and payout details will be announced.

The first day saw Dragos Trofimov grab the overall chip lead with 220,700. Trofimov is a well-known Moldovan grinder that travels around the world and made four five-figure cashes this year alone, including cashes in the Bahamas and in Barcelona.

Several other notable grinders found themselves on top of the leaderboard, including Dutch high roller Joris Ruijs (132,200), who just missed out on a cash in the 25K earlier this week, Kasper Mellanen (152,300), Hassan Sey (142,600), and Jari Mahonen (119,500).

Another eight levels of 60 minutes are on tap today, and with no dinner break in sight play for the day will be concluded in time to allow players to unwind at the PAPC Party that kicks off at 9 p.m. More details about the First Land of Poker (FLOP) app, the latest social poker app, will also be unveiled today during the party. After last night's crazy action in the €100/€100/€200 PLO cash game, another promising high-stakes cash game will be live streamed: this time, a €100/€200 No-Limit Hold'em cash game will be hosted to capture the attention of poker fans worldwide.

PokerNews will be on the floor in Tallinn until Sunday, April 7, when the winner of the inaugural PAPC Main Event will be crowned.

Pyysing Gets Something Going

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Aki Pyysing
Aki Pyysing

Aki Pyysing jumped right back into the tournament and wasted no time getting it in again. With the blinds at 500/1,000, Pyysing stuck it in from middle position for over 30,000. Davis Modans called all in for slightly less and Roope Tarmi overcalled to put both players at risk.

Aki Pyysing: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Davis Modans: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Roope Tarmi: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Pyysing's gamble paid off and he tripled up after the board came down {6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

"Can't Make That Sh*t Up, Bro"

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

With a full board of {9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{k-Spades}{a-Spades} out there, Henri Schalin checked from the blinds to Chino Rheem in middle position. The latter fired 11,900, only to be countered with a small check-raise from Schalin to 25,000.

Rheem picked up his {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} high enough for several neighbors to see the hand already.

"Ace-jack? Ace-jack no good man. A flush is good, you win with a flush," Rheem perfectly asssesed the situation.

He unhappily flicked in the extra chips a short while later and got shown the bad news by Schalin, who opened up {7-Spades}{3-Spades} for a hidden bottom-pair-turned-backdoor-flush.

Rheem glanced over at the adjacent table, where Noah Boeken was sitting.

"Flop top set, lose against bottom pair. Can't make that sh*t up, bro," he said to his friend.

Chino Rheem Eliminated

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

Veli-Pekka Alakorva opened to 3,600 from early position and got calls from Teemu Salminen from one seat over and Chino Rheem on the button.

The action folded around to Rheem after the {5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, who jammed for around 40,000. Alakorva quickly folded and Salminen counted out his chips before he called.

Chino Rheem: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Teemu Salminen: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Rheem's bottom pair was behind Salminen's overpair and he was never able to catch up with the {5-Diamonds} coming on the turn followed by the {j-Hearts} completing the board on the river.

Romero Bluffs it Off, Gets Ready for €100/€200

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
James Romero
James Romero

In a blind on blind battle, James Romero was involved with Santtu Leinonen. On the {4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} turn, Romero checked to Leinonen, who bet 8,000. Romero check-raised all in for 33,000 and Leinonen snap-called.

James Romero: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Santtu Leinonen: {k-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Romero tapped the table and made his way out after the {a-Hearts} fell on the river. He indicated he wants to join the €100/€200 No-Limit Hold'em cashgame, that's likely going to run later this afternoon.

Mattila Out and Back in His Seat

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Jussi Mattila
Jussi Mattila

Freek Scholten bet 6,000 into a pot of around 10,000 after the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs} came on the flop. Jussi Mattila jammed for about 30,000.

Scholten paused for less than a minute before he made the call.

Jussi Mattila: {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Freek Scholten: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Mattila was well ahead but began getting out of his seat with his opponent holding a flush draw. He was halfway out the door even after the {4-Spades} on the turn was a safe one for him. He got back into his seat with a smile after the {8-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

At the same table, Joris Ruijs continues to pile up chips and is up to 370,000.

Polgar Crushed

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Krisztina Polgar
Krisztina Polgar

Krisztina Polgar raised it up from late position and Markku Koplimaa called to see a flop. The flop came down {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Polgar got it all in for her remaining stack of around 30,000.

Krisztina Polgar: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Markku Koplimaa: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}

Polgar was drawing all but dead and the {q-Spades} on the turn was the final nail in the coffin, improving Koplimaa's straight to a genuine straight flush. The {q-Diamonds} was merely one for the statistics and Polgar made her way to the exit.

Big Pot for Ruijs

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Joris Ruijs
Joris Ruijs

The stack of Joris Ruijs continues to grow in leaps and bounds. He just won another big pot, this time without eliminating a player like he has done many times earlier today.

The action began with Kasper Mellanen opening to 4,500 from the cutoff. Martin Berge called from the button before Ruijs three-bet to 21,500.

Mellanen four-bet to 55,000. Berge tanked for a minute before he folded and the action paused on Ruijs also for a minute before he called.

Ruijs check-called a bet of 40,000 from Mellanen after the {5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} came on the flop. Ruijs then put his opponent to the test with a jam that more than covered the approximately 110,000 Mellanen had in his hand after the {6-Diamonds} came on the turn. Mellanen was in the tank for about 90 seconds before he opted to fold.

After the hand, Ruijs' stack grew to around 585,000, which is more than enough to claim the chip lead.
