Day 3 Started

Who Will Make the Final Table at First Ever PAPC?

Joris Ruijs
Joris Ruijs

At noon, 20 players will return for the penultimate day of the €1,500 Patrik Antonius Poker Challenge Main Event. Each of them is guaranteed a money finish of at least €2,820, but one of them will walk away with the first-place prize of €57,200 and the honor of becoming the first-ever PAPC Main Event champ.

Yesterday, it was all about one man: Joris Ruijs. In the span of nearly eight hours, he bagged up a monster lead worth 1,242,000, miles ahead of his nearest challengers Kasper Mellanen (423,000), Ville Jantunen (410,000), and Henri Schalin (365,000). A win in Estonia would put the 27-old from the Netherlands over the $1.7M in lifetime winnings, but he still needs to overcome 19 challengers in order to make it happen.

Play today is scheduled with levels of 60 minutes each, playing down to the final eight. Blinds will resume in level 16 with 3,000/6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000. Follow along with PokerNews as we bring you all the action live from the Olympic Park Casino in the Hilton Tallinn.

Ruijs Eliminates Leinonen

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Joris Ruijs

Joris Ruijs opened from the small blind before Santtu Leinonen jammed for 85,000 from the big blind. Ruijs wasted no time and made the call.

Santtu Leinonen: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Joris Ruijs: {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Leinonen's lead in the hand evaporated after Ruijs hit a pair on the {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop. Neither the {7-Hearts} on the turn nor the {6-Diamonds} on the river were able to save Leinonen and he was eliminated in 18th place for €2,820.

Aki Pyysing
Aki Pyysing

Joris Ruijs isn't planning on slowing down any time soon and took down another player in Aki Pyysing to take the field down to sixteen. The Finnish poker icon had just about five big blinds left when he was seated in the big blind.

Ruijs raised for late position and called off Pyysing's shove for a little extra.

Aki Pyysing: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Joris Ruijs: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The board came down {7-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Pyysing was gone in 17th.
