Who Will Make the Final Table at First Ever PAPC?

Joris Ruijs
Joris Ruijs

At noon, 20 players will return for the penultimate day of the €1,500 Patrik Antonius Poker Challenge Main Event. Each of them is guaranteed a money finish of at least €2,820, but one of them will walk away with the first-place prize of €57,200 and the honor of becoming the first-ever PAPC Main Event champ.

Yesterday, it was all about one man: Joris Ruijs. In the span of nearly eight hours, he bagged up a monster lead worth 1,242,000, miles ahead of his nearest challengers Kasper Mellanen (423,000), Ville Jantunen (410,000), and Henri Schalin (365,000). A win in Estonia would put the 27-old from the Netherlands over the $1.7M in lifetime winnings, but he still needs to overcome 19 challengers in order to make it happen.

Play today is scheduled with levels of 60 minutes each, playing down to the final eight. Blinds will resume in level 16 with 3,000/6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000. Follow along with PokerNews as we bring you all the action live from the Olympic Park Casino in the Hilton Tallinn.

Ruijs Eliminates Leinonen

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Joris Ruijs
Joris Ruijs

Joris Ruijs opened from the small blind before Santtu Leinonen jammed for 85,000 from the big blind. Ruijs wasted no time and made the call.

Santtu Leinonen: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Joris Ruijs: {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Leinonen's lead in the hand evaporated after Ruijs hit a pair on the {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop. Neither the {7-Hearts} on the turn nor the {6-Diamonds} on the river were able to save Leinonen and he was eliminated in 18th place for €2,820.

Ruijs Keeps Going, Sends Pyysing Out

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Aki Pyysing
Aki Pyysing

Joris Ruijs isn't planning on slowing down any time soon and took down another player in Aki Pyysing to take the field down to sixteen. The Finnish poker icon had just about five big blinds left when he was seated in the big blind.

Ruijs raised for late position and called off Pyysing's shove for a little extra.

Aki Pyysing: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Joris Ruijs: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The board came down {7-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Pyysing was gone in 17th.

Martin Berge Eliminated in 16th Place (€3,020)

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Martin Berge
Martin Berge

Martin Berge was just eliminated in 16th place for €3,020 in a hand that took nearly eight minutes to unfold.

Markku Koplimaa opened up from the hijack to 13,000 and got a call from Berge in the big blind.

Berge checked after the {2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} came on the flop before Koplimaa fired out a continuation bet of 12,500. Berge tanked for two minutes before he raised to 28,500.

Koplimaa then tanked before he raised to 100,000, which more than covered the approximately 60,000 Berge had left in his stack. Berge paused for several minutes before he made the call.

Markku Koplimaa: {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Martin Berge: {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

"Nice hand," Berge said when he saw his middle pair needed help to beat Koplimaa's top pair.

No help came as the {4-Hearts} on the turn and the {4-Clubs} on the river were blanks and Berge headed to the cashier to collect his payout.

Julius Schamburg Eliminated in 15th Place (€3,020)

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Julius Schamburg
Julius Schamburg

Julius Schamburg raised to 18,000 from middle position and everyone folded to Joris Ruijs in the big blind, who three-bet to 78,000. Schamburg, who already had multiple big clashes with Ruijs yesterday, four-bet shoved for about 310,000 and Ruijs snapped it off.

Julius Schamburg: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Joris Ruijs: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The best hand remained ahead on {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and Schamburg bowed out.

The hand after Julius Schamburg busted, short stack Kaupo Tenno shoved it in for 57,000 from middle position. In the small blind this time, Joris Ruijs once again committed chips to put a player at risk.

Kaupo Tenno: {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Joris Ruijs: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The {a-Spades} flopped in the window, followed by {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} to have Ruijs once again eliminate another hopeful.

Hassan Sey Eliminated in 13th Place (€3,500)

Kasper Mellanen raised to 18,000, Hassan Sey three-bet shoved all in for 163,000 and Mellanen called after a minute of thought.

Hassan Sey: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Kasper Mellanen: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Sey, who finished second in the €550 Kings of Tallinn championship in the same casino last month, would finish 13th now as the dealer spread out {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} to spell his demise.

Tarmo Tammel Eliminated in 12th Place (€4,100)

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Tarmo Tammel shoved about 90,000 from under the gun and Joris Ruijs called one seat over to try and score his sixth knockout of the day.

Tarmo Tammel: {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Joris Ruijs: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

The {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop gave Tammel a big lead and the {6-Diamonds} turn left Ruijs drawing to two outs. It's one of those days where the chip leader can't do anything wrong, though, and sure enough the dealer slapped the {7-Clubs} river onto the felt to improve Ruijs to the winning boat.

Tammel was a good sport about it, congratulated Ruijs and took out his camera to photograph his bustout hand.

Marvin Hannemann raised it up on the button, Paul Fowler three-bet shoved 130,000 from the big blind and Hannemann beat him to the pot with a call.

Paul Fowler: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

No extra round of votes needed here: the Brit's exit was sealed after the board ran out {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds} to end his bid in 11th place.

Henri Schalin Eliminated in 10th Place (€4,750)

Henri Schalin
Henri Schalin

Kasper Mellanen opened the button to 22,000. Henri Schalin jammed from the small blind for about four-times more and Mellanen made the snap-call.

Henri Schalin: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Kasper Mellanen: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}

Schalin was ahead before the flop but was already out of his seat packing up his things perhaps knowing what would come. Schalin was still ahead after the {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop.

The {7-Hearts} on the turn was another safe card for Schalin. However, the {2-Hearts} came on the river to complete a gutshot straight draw for Mellanen and Schalin was ousted in tenth place for €4,750.

"Good game," Mellanen said to Schalin before the two shook hands.
