Langlitz On Top, Filatov Among Leaders After Day 1b of German Poker Championship

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Anatoly Filatov Bags Big on Day 1b

The second of three starting days of the 2017 partypoker LIVE German Poker Championship €2.200 Main Event is in the books. A total of 170 players had qualified with stacks via the online satellites on partypoker and the live satellites in the King's Casino in Rozvadov, and a further 126 direct buy-ins were added throughout the eight levels of one hour each to create a field of 296 entries.

Only 167 players bagged up chips and all those that failed to do so have two further chances to join the action. As of 12 p.m. local time the turbo heat Day 1c with levels of 20 minutes kicks off and Day 2 of the Main Event restarts at 3 p.m. local time. A single re-entry can be fired for both and the registration for 1c remains open for the entire duration, while all players can also re-enter once throughout the first four levels of Day 2.

Leading the field of Day 1b survivors is Viktor Langlitz, who also came into the day with the biggest stack. Langlitz coolered several opponents on the way to bag up an impressive 8,058,000 while partypoker sponsored pro and €5,300 High Roller champion Anatoly Filatov made it through with 5,500,000, Sonay Kehya rounds up the top three with 4,667,000. Marcel Luske had to fire a second bullet after running dry in the first three levels and carried over 2,109,000.

Other big stacks and notables include Alamzad Sina (3,996,000), Miroslav Lelek (3,703,000), Jan Mach (3,666,000), Kacper Pyzara (2,977,000), Jesper Hansen (2,913,000), Marek Blasko (2,899,000), Ondrej Mar (2,858,000), Marko Simic (2,470,000), Hossein Ensan (2,200,000), Paul Michaelis (1,969,000), and 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event 8th place finisher Jack Sinclair (1,377,000). Slovakia's Andrej Desset, who won back-to-back partypoker Grand Prix Main Events, advanced to Day 2 with 1,724,000 and his brother Dominik bagged up 910,000.

Some big names fell on Day 1b and that list includes Pierre Neuville, Sander van Wesemael, Martin Kabrhel, Andrew King and Moritz Dietrich. Neuville was on the wrong end of a straight-versus straight showdown while van Wesemael busted his first bullet quickly before taking a brutal beat on the second entry. Eventual chip leader Langlitz got it in preflop against the Dutchman with ace-king suited versus aces, and instead of a gutshot on the flop he hit running clubs for a flush to bust van Wesemael.

Martin Kabrhel and his card and chip-protecting hippo joined in the second-last level of the night, and the Czech poker brat ran out of chips in the very last hand. Kabrhel was at risk with pocket eights and Sandro Pitzanti looked him up with ace-jack off suit to hit a royal flush in order to dispatch Kabrhel in style.

The tournament is on track to not only meet but exceed the guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000. The two starting days at Europe's biggest poker arena attracted 360 entries so far, of which 203 already have chips for Day 2. On top of that, another 37 players qualified for Day 2 on partypoker to make it 240 survivors, and further ones will be added to the mix via Day 1c.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide updates until the Main Event champion is crowned on Monday, August 14th 2017.

Hossein In the Membrane, Ensan Shoves River and Shows the Bluff

Level 8 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Hossein Ensan
Hossein Ensan

Hossein Ensan opened the action from under the gun for 25,000 and picked up three callers including Miroslav Lelek before it got to Vytautas Semaska in the small blind.

Semaska took his time before he raised to 135,000. Ensan gave him a hard stare and peeled off the calling chips from his stack. The next player in line rolled his eyes and folded, Lelek stuck in the calling chips and the player on the button folded.

It was three-ways to the flop of{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{q-Spades}.

A minute ticked by before Semaska continued for 185,000. Another severe glare from Ensan before he called and Lelek left them to it.

“Heads up,” the dealer said andburned and turned the {8-Hearts}.

Some shuffling of chips from Semaska before he checked to Ensan who bet 220,000 and got a call from Semaska.

The river was the {6-Hearts} and a final check from Semaska saw Ensan move all in for 608,000.

Semaska sat for a while before slowly pushing his cards away and Ensan showed him the {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} bluff for good measure.

Langlitz Blitzes Suleyman

Level 7 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Viktor Langlitz extends his chiplead
Viktor Langlitz extends his chiplead

Viktor Langlitz put in a 3-bet pre-flop to 70,000 behind a 25,000 open, with Edgar Suleyman making the call, and the original raiser putting in the extra. They went three ways to a {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop, where Langlitz just shoved the lot in for 2,800,000 effective.

Suleyman leapt out of his seat, putting his hands to his head, and knocking his chair over in the process. He dwelled for a good minute and a half, while Langlitz's huge overbet started to attract the attention of some railbirds before eventually making the call. He turned over {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and was almost an exact coinflip versus Langlitz's {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

"When in doubt, just shove, right?" quipped Jack Sinclair, as onlookers eagerly awaited the runout.

The turn bricked the {k-Spades}, and the river bricked the {9-Clubs}, with Suleyman's entire stack heading towards Langlitz, extending his chiplead and giving him a truly mammoth stack.

Ondrej Mar Raises the Bar

Level 7 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Ondrej Mar
Ondrej Mar

In a hand that lasted several minutes into the last break, Ondrej Mar scooped a massive pot. On a four-way flop of {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, the action checked to Mar in the cutoff and he bet 100,000, which picked up two callers including Rishi Ravi Bhasin. After the {J-Clubs} turn, Bhasin check-called a hefty bet of 375,000 by Mar with around 430,000 behind while the hijack folded.

The {7-Clubs} river completed the board and Mar moved all in. Bhasin tanked for two minutes and eventually called, then mucked {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} when he was shown {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for two pair by Mar.

Massive Pot To Langlitz

We didn't get to see how this hand played out, we only saw the aftermath.

Where Sander van Wesemael was previously sat, there lay only the {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} on the felt, with his 2,200,000 chips being counted down by the dealer. Across from him sat Viktor Langlitz with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}, looking at {5-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} runout.

Apparently all the chips went in pre-flop, but all that matters now is that Langlitz has an enormous chipstack with just over two levels left to play in Day 1B of the Main Event.

Pierre Neuville Eliminated With Wrong End Of the Straight

Level 6 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Pierre Neuville Busts
Pierre Neuville Busts

Ngoc Bui Hai opened from early position for 35,000 and picked up three callers including Pierre Neuville.

The flop was {6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and Hai continued for 61,000 with Neuville being the sole caller.

The turn card was the {9-Spades} and Neuville checked it to Hai who fired 110,000. Neuville then check-raised him to 310,000. Hai looked serious and studied the board with an air of concern before calling.

The river was the {5-Hearts} Neuville had a count of his remaining stack before moving all in for around 700,000 and Hai wasted no time in calling the bet.

Neuville showed {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} having hit his gut-shot on the turn for a straight.

Hai had a gut-shot on the flop too but his {j-Spades}{8-Spades} went one better than Neuville’s straight to bust him.

Flying Start For Filatov

Level 4 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Filatov is off to a great start in the Main Event
Filatov is off to a great start in the Main Event

Anatoly Filatov opened with a raise to 15,000 from the cutoff, picking up the player on the button, Paul Michaelis in the small blind, and the player in the big blind. They took a {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop four ways, with action checking round to Filatov who put out a continuation bet worth 50,000. It was only Michaelis who flopped nothing, with the remaining three players seeing an {a-Clubs} turn.

Filatov went for a second barrel, this time asking for 125,000. The player on the button was convinced and mucked his hand, while the big blind stuck around to see another card. The {q-Diamonds} came on the river, with Filatov loading the clip and firing out 325,000 when checked to. The big blind made the call, showing {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a flush, but was no good versus Filatov's {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for the absolute nuts.

It looks as if Filatov is starting where he left off: after winning the High Roller side event outright in the early hours of this morning, he's off to a great start in the Main Event.

Just a Casual Knockout

Level 3 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Jan Mach pictured in the High Roller

After a raise by Roman Cieslik, Roman Lendi moved all in for 79,000 and Cheng-Wei Yin reshoved for 432,000 from one seat over. Jan Mach on the button was the third player to go all in and Cieslik folded {J-Spades}{10-Spades} face up, then tried to bet with players at the table that he would have won the hand.

Roman Lendi: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Cheng-Wei Yin: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Jan Mach: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{3-Spades} flop gave Mach top set and neither opponent had a spade, while Cieslik was in agony at missing a near quadruple up. Both the {A-Diamonds} turn and {4-Diamonds} river were blanks and Mach sent two opponents to the rail.

Riss Takes a Brutal Beat

Level 2 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Alain Riss
Alain Riss

An uproar was heard from one of the side tables and Alain Riss gasped a "no no no", even banging with his hands at the wall. Rushing by to the table, the board showed {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{A-Spades} and the stack of Rifat Gegic was counted. According to players at the table, Gegic had jammed preflop with {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} after a raising war with the Frenchman, who quickly called with pocket kings and saw the nightmare ace appear on the river.

Gegic doubled for 647,500 and bumped his stack up to 1.3 million.

One hand later, there was a raise to 12,000 and Riss called. Gegic announced "I am all in" and the initial raiser folded. "Now you can call and get chips back," Gegic said to Riss, who folded and stormed off the table to take a break. While Gegic scored that big double, he is not the chip leader by any means - Viktor Langlitz brought in almost two million and has since bumped that up further.
