A Look Ahead to the WPT Online Poker Open on partypoker US

WPT Online
WPT Online

Last month, the World Poker Tour (WPT) announced its first U.S.-based online Main Tour event, the $3,500 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event, set for a late December running in New Jersey. That one will also carry a guarantee of $1 million.

The WPT Online Poker Open Main Event will be held Dec. 27-29 on partypoker US Network for players in New Jersey.

The ambitious $1 million guarantee signifies how serious the WPT and partypoker are about making this a premier poker tournament worthy of the WPT name.

“The WPT Online Poker Open brings the most prestigious prize in poker to New Jersey and the partypoker US Network,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a presser. “WPT’s continued pivot toward online will continue with another landmark for regulated online poker in the United States.”

Indeed, the WPT has pivoted into a strong series of online offerings, however, all were offered to the dot-com partypoker player pool, a much larger bunch of customers than the prospective New Jersey pool. Drawing the necessary entries to meet the guarantee will require some effort, and the WPT already announced satellites will be available for as little as $5.

"Bluehaven" Loses Flip on Money Bubble

In Level 22 (6,000/12,000/1,500), action folded around to "Bluehaven" who raised all in for 215,218 from the hijack and John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza isolated from the small blind.

"Bluehaven": {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

"Bluehaven" was ahead until the {10-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop appeared pairing Forlenza's ace.

The {k-Spades} turn wasn't horrible for "Bluehaven" as it gave them ore outs drawing to broadway but the {3-Spades} completed the board on the river ending their tournament on the money bubble.

Hohner Flushes Vanauken as Play Inches Closer to the Money

In Level 20 (4,000/8,000/1,000), a monster pot was brewing between Eric “alwaysliquid” Vanauken and Ryan “TheSims” Hohner.

Action was heads-up with {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} appearing on the board. With 178,000 already in the middle, Vanauken moved all in for roughly 150,000 from the small blind and Hohner called from the cutoff leaving himself just 58,344 behind.

Ryan “TheSims” Hohner: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Eric “alwaysliquid” Vanauken: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}

Vanauken flopped a set of nines while Hohner paired his ten on the turn but more importantly, held straight and flush draws.

Hohner needed to get lucky and did as the {8-Clubs} completed his flush on the river, sending Vanauken to the rail just before the money bubble.
