Shvart Leads Parx Big Stax 1100 Final Table

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Grigoriy Shvarts
Grigoriy Shvarts

Another long day has finished in Parx Big Stax 1100, and at long last, the big money is in sight for the grinders putting in dozens of hours here in the Philadelphia area.

Just nine players remain out of a field that grew to 370 with a handful of Day 2 entries, and they're playing for more than $80,000 up top with everyone having locked up $8,255 for making the final table.

Foremost among that nine in terms of chip count is Grigoriy Shvarts. Shvarts overcome a bout of feeling less than himself near the end of Day 1 and showed up to Day 2 refreshed and ready to go, responding in the affirmative when his opponents asked if he was feeling better.

He certainly played like it, as he ran all the way up to 5.6 million, good for about 30% of the total chips in play. That's good for 140 big blinds when play resumes on Monday at 20,000/40,000/40,000.

A big moment for Shvarts came just before the final table when he eliminated venue legend Joe Palma, snapping off Palma's four-bet stuff with kings and prevailing against ace-queen suited. That pot gave Shvarts a bigger stack than anyone else finished with despite 90 minutes remaining in the day.

Here's a look at the players remaining who can contest Shvarts' dominance:

SeatPlayerStack
1AJ Jamil3,100,000
2Rafal Kordys1,010,000
3Rafael Yaraliyev2,060,000
4Peter Ippolito465,000
5Thomas Parkes3,680,000
6David Whitnah1,110,000
7Cody Heuschkel360,000
8Grigoriy Shvarts5,600,000
9Hal Rotholz1,235,000

Cody Heuschkel had a healthy stack for most of the day, but a late run of bad luck dropped him to the bottom of the counts, with the worst blow coming when he ran ace-king into the aces of Rafael Yaraliyev.

Still, he has a pulse at the final table, which several players who bowed out on Day 2 would be happy to say. Notables who busted before the money included Jimmy Poper, Michael Marder and Jonas Wexler, while Mukul and Vinny Pahuja, DJ MacKinnon, Victor Ramdin and Greg Fishberg were among those making the 47 paid places.

The final table reconvenes at 12 p.m. local time here at Parx. More 90-minute levels will be played until somebody lays claim to $82,549.

Roman Valerstein Eliminated in 10th Place ($6,901)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Roman Valerstein
Roman Valerstein

Thomas Parkes limped in the small blind and Roman Valerstein made it 110,000. Parkes called and check-called 80,000 on the {10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop. Parkes checked the {3-Diamonds} turn and Valerstein bet 260,000. Parkes announced a raise and then slid in 650,000. Valerstein responded by jamming for about 1.1 million and Parkes snap-called with {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Valerstein was stone dead with {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} and he turned his hand back over and headed to payouts.

Josias Santos Eliminated in 11th Place ($6,901)

Josias Santos
Josias Santos

We heard a commotion coming from Table 10, and moved over in time to see the results of an all-in hand between Josias Santos and AJ Jamil. It's not know when the money went in, but Santos had {9-}{9-} for a set on {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Unfortunately for him, Jamil had backed into the nut flush with {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and he collected the 800,000 or so Santos had left.

Joe Palma Eliminated in 12th Place ($6,901)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Joe Palma
Joe Palma

Joe Palma raised to 80,000 in middle position, Rafal Kordys called in the small blind and Grigoriy Shvarts woke up with 305,000 in the big. Palma shoved, Kordys folded and Shvarts snap-called with {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

Palma winced and showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. The {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} board gave Palma top pair but it wasn't enough.

Hal Rotholz opened under the gun to 60,000, Rafael Yaraliyev called on the button and Shaotong Chang jammed 180,000 in the big blind. Rotholz clicked back to chase Yaraliyev off and tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Chang had {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and looked to be securing yet another double after the {j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop. However, a {9-Diamonds} turn sealed her elimination.

According to Joe Palma, he opened and then called a shove from Marilyn Matthews, worth about 200,000. She was slightly ahead with {a-}{q-} against {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and furthered her advantage by flopping a queen. However, Palma turned a king and rivered a flush to bust her.

Fishberg, Mujalli Busto

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Greg Fishberg
Greg Fishberg

Cody Heuschkel opened for 50,000 under the gun and Greg Fishberg ripped in about 500,000 on the button. Heuschkel quickly called and showed {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. That was dominating Fishberg's {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

The {q-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} flop increased Fishberg's outs considerably. However, the {9-Clubs} and {8-Hearts} were bricks on the turn and river.

At another table, Joe Mujalli went bust.

Ippolito Doubles Through Brobyn

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Robert Brobyn
Robert Brobyn

After a hijack raise and a cutoff call, Peter Ippolito made it 122,000 in the big blind. Both players called him and {8-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} flopped. Ippolito bet 170,000 or so, the opener mucked, and Robert Brobyn said he was all in. Ippolito beat him into the pot and tabled {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Brobyn had {a-Spades}{5-Spades} but bricked out as {10-Clubs} and {k-Clubs} hit the felt.

Ippolito collected 427,000, about half of Brobyn's remaining chips.

Ramdin First to Cash

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Victor Ramdin
Victor Ramdin

Victor Ramdin raise in the cutoff and called off his last 50,000 or with {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. He was dominated by the big blind's {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. The {k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop brought plenty of outs for Ramdin, but the {8-Spades} and {j-Spades} kept his opponent's kicker barely in play.
