A number of notables are perched atop the leader board as the fourth levels gets going. Play has been surprisingly calm and measured so far, and we can't spot a stack bigger than 63,000. That stack belongs to the very dangerous Ludovic Lacay, and he'll be looking to parlay this quick start into a deep run over the next few days. Hot on his heels is Barry Greenstein with 55,000, and Shaun Deeb's count of 53,000 puts him in the mix as well, Deeb playing in what he says is his final tournament.
Despite his near-asleep posture, Dario Minieri has also come out of the gate strong (as usual), sitting now with 52,000. Filling out the over-50K club is Zach 'HustlerGrune' Gruneberg.
An early-position player raised to 600 and the button made the call. Brett Richey was in the big blind and called as well, brining three players to a flop of . Richey checked before the preflop raiser fired 1,200. The button folded and Richey made the call.
The turn brought the and both players checked. The river was the , prompting Richey to fire 2,500. His opponent took about a minute to let his hand go, moving Richey up to 41,000.
With the button, Barry Greenstein called a bet of 3,200 from his opponent on a board of . The player was acting out of the big blind position.
The river was the and the big blind fired 7,500. Greenstein wasted little time in making the call. His opponent tabled for a full house. Greenstein double checked his hole cards and then mucked his hand. He dropped the 53,000 chips.
Jason Mercier paid a visit to Landshark Stadium in Miami, Florida on Sunday to watch his favorite NFL team -- the Miami Dolphins -- take on last year's Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
While Miami fell just short of a late 4th quarter comeback, ultimately losing the game 30-24, Mercier seems to be fairing much better than his favorite footy team did and is up to 38,000 early on after a recent hand against Todd Terry.
With the board showing and about 2,100 already in the pot, Terry led out with a 1,400 bet. Mercier then kicked it up to 3,900 and Terry made the call.
The last card off the deck was the and Terry check-called a 6,250 bet from Mercier on the river. Mercier then turned over for top and bottom pair, having Terry's beat.
After the hand, Terry was left with 19,000 in chips.
When nobody was looking, Gloria Balding snuck into the back offices to scope out the players' bags that are given away to the online qualifiers. The PCA has the best giveaway bags of the year, and Glo found out what's inside of them... and how soft they are. Check it out:
After a few limps, Dario Minieri raised to 1,200 from the small blind. Only one of the limpers called and the two players went heads up to the flop.
The flop came down and Minieri bet 1,725. His opponent made the call before the fell on the turn. Minieri checked and his opponent checked right behind.
The river was the and Minieri fired 6,100. After a few minutes in the tank, his opponent called.
Minieri tabled and the other player mucked his hand as he nodded his head. Minieri's up to 52,000 now.
Catching up with the action on the turn, the board read between three players. The first player checked and action fell on Amit Makhija. He bet 1,050 with about 2,000 chips already sitting in the pot. The next player to act made the call as did the first player that checked.
The river brought the and action checked to Makhija again. He fired 1,875 and was called in both spots. Makhija tabled for three sevens and raked in the pot to improve to 39,000.
