Phil Ivey Doubles Early

It's often thought that Phil Ivey has a big edge on most tournament fields. If true, that edge just increased as Ivey has already doubled up.

The cameras swarmed the table as Ivey and John Spadavecchia, Jr. got all of the money in preflop, revealing that Ivey had the upper hand with the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} versus Spadavecchia's {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}.

On the flop, the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} rolled out and Spadavecchia picked up some additional outs to a straight. The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, and the river completed the board with the {10-Clubs}. Ivey faded what he needed to, eliminating Spadavecchia and moving to 60,000 in chips.

Petersen's Two Pair

PokerStars Team Online Member Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen opened to 300 in early position, Matt Salsberg three-bet to 900 on his direct left, and the action folded back to Petersen, who called.

The flop fell {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, Petersen checked, and Salsberg tossed out 1,200. Petersen called.

The turn was the {10-Spades}, the two checked, and the {7-Diamonds} completed the board. Petersen tossed out two yellow T1,000 chips, and Salsberg quickly called. Petersen turned over {9-Spades}{7-Spades} for two pair, and Salsberg unhappily mucked.

Moneymaker Looking To Improve Upon 2011's 11th-Place Finish

In 2011, the poker world was captivated as Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker, their hero from the poker boom, made a deep run in the PCA Main Event. Unfortunately Moneymaker's deep run through a field of 1,560 players came up short of the final table in 11th place, for which he earned $130,000.

Moneymaker is in today's field and looking to improve upon that performance. In a recent hand, there was 1,350 in the pot and a board reading {8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. The player in the big blind had checked to Moneymaker, who fired out a single yellow T1,000 chip. It proved enough to get the job done as Moneymaker's opponent gave up on the hand.

It's a good start for the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ.

Two Pair Good For Glantz

With 1,300 in the pot and a board reading {K-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades}, Owen Crowe bet 1,125 from early position and received a call from Matt Glantz on the button. Both players then checked the {Q-Clubs} river and Crowe tabled {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for top pair. Unfortunately for him, Glantz held {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for two pair and the win.

It's been a prosperous level for Glantz, who is already up to 38,000.

Peters vs. Boyd

David Peters opened for 250 from middle position and received calls from Carlos Boyd and Alexander Zaverukha on the button and big blind respectively. All three players checked the {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop, and then Zaverukha checked the {3-Hearts} turn. Peters took the opportunity to bet 425, Boyd snap-called, and Zaverukha got out of the way.

When the {4-Spades} peeled off on the river, Peters put out a bet of 850, and this time it proved enough to get the job done as Boyd released his hand.

One For Massey

Timothy Adams opened for 250 from the hijack and received a call from Aaron Massey on the button. Zachary Korik came along from the big blind, and it was three-way action to the {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Spades} flop.

Korik checked, Adams bet 425, and Massey raised to 925. Korik quickly folded, Adams tossed in a call, and then the dealer burned and turned the {Q-Spades}. This time Adams slowed down with a check, and Massey kept the pressure on with a bet of 1,500. Adams, who was receiving a massage, thought long and hard before full releasing his hand.
