$25,000 High Roller
Day 1 Completed
Day 1 of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller has come to a close. After 10 hours of play, the survivors have bagged up their chips to return for tomorrow's Day 2, and it's Jonathan Jaffe who finished in the top spot on the leader board. Jaffe steadily built his stack all day long and finished on an impressive 422,000 in chips.
The event attracted 229 entries throughout the day, and that stemmed from 190 unique players and 39 reentries. With registration and reentry open until play begins for Day 2, it is expected that the field size will grow even more and get up to around the 250-player mark. This year marks the largest ever $25,000 High Roller at the PCA, smashing last year's record field that attracted 161 unique players and 43 reentries for 204 total buy-ins.
The reigning champion, Vanessa Selbst, has advanced to Day 2. She opted to play after busting from the $10,000 Main Event on Day 4 earlier in the day for a $32,000 payday for her 42nd-place finish and went on to find a double right towards the end of the night through Martin Finger that helped her to finish around 200,000 or so.
Along with Selbst, there's plenty of supreme firepower remaining in this field. Of those who will be back for action on Sunday are Team PokerStars Pro and Global Poker Index Player of the Decade Daniel Negreanu, 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Greg Merson, and two-time World Poker Tour Alpha8 winner Philipp Gruissem. Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Maxim Lykov, and Jonathan Duhamel also still remain.
Day 2 will commence at 12 p.m. local time here in the Bahamas at the Atlantis Resort, and that's when registration and reentry will be officially closed. We will then be able to grab the prize pool and payout information, but rest assured that there is going to be plenty of money up for grabs and tons of exciting poker action to be had.
We'll see you back here on PokerNews starting at noon tomorrow for all of the live updates.

The players have wrapped up for the night, and the survivors are bagging up their chips. A recap from the day will be posted shortly.
Jonathan Jaffe has the largest stack in the room, but even the big stacks lose a pot every now and then.
On this hand, Jaffe checked the board to his opponent, Faraz Jaka. Jaka fired 18,000, and Jaffe made the call. The
finished off the board on the river, and Jaffe checked. Jaka bet 38,000, and Jaffe tank-folded.

The day is almost done in the $25,000 High Roller as we are down to the final six hands.
According to one of our colleagues there was just a huge clash between Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst and Martin Finger. Bryn Kenney raised and Shaun Deeb called from the button after which the fireworks started.
Selbst three-bet to 13,500 from the small blind and Finger four-bet from the big blind to 29,000.
Both Kenney and Deeb folded quickly and the action was back on Selbst.
Selbst went into the tank for about two minutes before she decided to move all in for 90,300. Finger went into the tank for about 90 seconds when Keith Lehr, who had been wondering around returned and called the clock on him.
Players at the table told the floor staff that this was unfair and Finger was given some additional time. Eventually Finger called and turned over versus Selbst's
.
The board ran out and Selbst secured a very big double up near the end of night.

Philipp Gruissem bet 5,500 on the board, and Francisco Garcia made the call to see the
land on the turn. Gruissem bet again, and this time he made it 18,000 to go. Garcia tanked, then called.
The came out on the river, and Gruissem fired all in. Garcia eventually made the call to put his remaining stack of 82,700 on the line. He held the
and that beat Gruissem's
to scoop in the big pot.

Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen just raised under the gun to 3,500 and Matt Glantz, from his immediate left, three-bet to 8,500. The action was folded back around to Guillen who moved all in for right around 35,000 and Glantz called.
Glantz:
Guillen:
The board brought mere blanks and Guillen was eliminated from the High Roller after busting the Main Event earlier today as well.

From early position, Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier raised to 3,200. Nadar Kakhmazov made the call from the cutoff seat, and Brian Green called from the small blind.
The flop came down , and Green checked. Mercier bet 4,500, and Kakhmazov raised to 13,800. After Green folded, Mercier made the call.
The turn was the , and both Mercier and Kakhmazov checked to see the
land on the river. Mercier checked, Kakhmazov bet 18,700, and Mercier called.
Kakhmazov showed the , and Mercier gave a face as if to say, "I don't believe it." He mucked his hand, and Kakhmazov won the pot.
