Day 2 Started

Jaffe Leads Into Day 2; Selbst Still Alive in Title Defense

Welcome back for Day 2 of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller taking place at the beautiful Atlantis Resort here on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Heading into the second day of play, Jonathan Jaffe tops the field with 422,000 in chips.

Behind Jaffe sits Ole Schemion (347,700), Daniel Negreanu (344,500), Philipp Gruissem (290,300), and Mustapha Kanit (277,600) to round out the top five, but many eyes will be solely fixed on the defending champion Vanessa Selbst. She will enter the day with 185,700 in chips, which is good enough for 25th overall.

Selbst is riding somewhat of a high here at the 2014 PCA. First, she took third in the $100,000 Super High Roller for $760,640 to kick off her series, and then she finished in 42nd place in the $10,000 Main Event for $32,000. With more players in this event this year than last, shattering the record that was set, it would be an amazing feat if Selbst was able to reach the final table once again.

Other notables remaining are Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel, Jeremy Ausmus, Greg Merson, Matt Glantz, and Shannon Shorr.

Play will kick off at 12 p.m. local time, and you can stick right here on PokerNews all day long for the live updates straight from the tournament floor as we march on to the final table.

Day 2 is Underway

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 500 ante

The cards are in the air for the second day of play and it looks to be a crazy one. With the huge amount of entrants the first prize will be enormous and the plan is to play down as far as possible.

The final table might not be within reach, but at the end of the day we'll know who has a good chance at pocketing more than $1.5 million!

Huge Turnout

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 500 ante

The board currently shows 247 total entrants, 49 of which are re-entries. We're not sure if this is the final number, but it's already 43 entries bigger than last years. That's an additional $1,075,000 in the prize pool guaranteeing a huge first-place prize.

As registration is now close we expect to receive the payout table shortly. In total eight new players showed up today and 10 decided to re-enter.

Newey Busts One

Paul Newey (Day 1)

From middle position, a player raised to 4,000, and then Tobias Reinkemeier called from the cutoff seat. On the button, Paul Newey thought about his options and then reraised all in. The original raiser called all in for 49,100, and Reinkemeier folded.

Newey showed the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for two big over cards against the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for the all-in player. The board ran out {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{J-Hearts}, and Newey won the pot to move to 118,000 in chips.

Newey is a relatively new player to the high-stakes poker world, but he is no stranger to being a high roller. In a recent interview with PokerNews' Rich Ryan, Newey discusses diving into the world of poker, improving his game, and much more.

Garcia Jams On Julius

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 500 ante

From early position, Kyle Julius raised to 4,200. Myro Garcia reraised on the button to 9,500, and action folded back to Julius. He reraised and made it 21,300 to go. Garcia took a minute or so, and then moved all in for around 80,000. Julius instantly folded, and Garcia won the pot.
