Day 1a Started

Welcome to the 2015 PCA Main Event!

Welcome to PokerNews live coverage of the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event!

We're here at the beautiful Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas where all eyes in the poker world are on the premiere tournament that kicks off the poker year.

The PCA always brings in the big names for the Main Event and this year should be no different. Last year, Dominik Panka defeated Mike "Timex" McDonald heads up to win the first-place prize of $1,423,096. He bested a field of 1,031 entrants that included some of the biggest names in poker.

Among those likely to make an appearance in the Main Event this year are Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, and Fatima Moreira De Melo. Those three will be joined by the likes of Panka, McDonald, Aaron Massey, Ole Schemion, Stephen Chidwick, Maria Ho, Joe Cada, and many others looking to put their name in the PCA history book.

Perhaps some of the celebrities here will take part in the Main Event. Among those in attendance are MMA fighter Tito Ortiz and PGA golfer Sergio Garcia. If either of those or any other notable name takes a seat you can be assured you'll be the first to know about it.

Players will start with 30,000 chips and play eight one-hour levels today. Cards will be in the air shortly. Stay tuned throughout the day for exciting coverage of the 2015 PCA Main Event!

Moneymaker Wins a Small One

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We got to the table with a board of {K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} and Chris Moneymaker facing a bet of 900 with approximately 1,200 already in the pot. The 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champion made it 2,700 to go and would pick up the small pot when his opponent folded.

We got to the table with the dealer having already put out the river card and the board showing {K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Vanessa Selbst was up against one player who put out a bet of 1,050.

"How much?" Selbst asked and her opponent told her the amount.

Selbst shook her head, grabbed the chips to make the call, and tossed them into the middle while saying "I think you're overplaying your hand."

Her opponent nodded as he tabled {K-Spades}{10-Spades} for a pair of kings with a ten kicker. Selbst turned over the winner, {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, as her opponent told her "nice hand."

"Damage was small," smiled Selbst as she stacked her newly acquired chips.
