It happened when Holz shoved all in for his last 63,000 from the cutoff and Mercier moved all in over the top from the button. The blinds both folded and Holz discovered the bad news.
Mercier:
Holz:
Holz was in big trouble, and the flop didn't provide him much help. The turn gave him a gutshot, but it proved a moot point when an blanked on the river.
Something tells us we'll see Holz back in action, if not yet today then tomorrow.
Jason Koon raised from the hijack and then called when Talal Shakerchi three-bet to 35,000 from the small blind. The flop saw Shakerchi fire out 42,000, Koon call, and the dealer burn and turn the . Both players checked, the completed the board on the river, and Shakerchi took a big pile of green T25,000 chips and spiked them in the pot.
Koon had 150,000 behind and would need to put his tournament life on the line if he wanted to make the call. He decided against it however and released his hand.
Mustapha Kanit raised to 11,500 and from his direct left it was Dan Shak who three-bet to 37,500 on the button. Kanit called, the flop brought out , and Kanit check-called 31,000.
On the turn the hit and Kanit checked again, after which Shak bet 75,000.
Kanit moved all in, to put Shak at risk for 191,000 total, and the American player called almost right away.
Kanit:
Shak:
The river was the and Shak found himself a double up.
Joe McKeehen raised to 12,000 from the cutoff and Noah Schwartz three-bet from the small blind to 37,000. McKeehen made the call and the flop brought out , on which Schwartz bet 40,000 and McKeehen called.
On the turn the hit and both players checked. The river brought the and Schwartz checked to McKeehen, who bet 75,000. Schwartz tanked for a bit before calling, and mucked when the WSOP Main Event champion showed .
It happened when Kaverman open-shipped the button for roughly 75,000 and Negreanu three-bet all in over the top from the small blind. Mike "Timex" McDonald folded from the big and it was off to the races.
Negreanu:
Kaverman:
Kaverman was looking to hold, but that proved easier said than done as the flop paired Negreanu. Neither the turn nor river helped Kaverman, and he made a late exit from the tournament.
The tournament staff just announced the remaining players will play three more hands before bagging and tagging for the night. We're headed out to capture any last-minute action and to compile a list of chip counts. Stay tuned for those as well as a full recap of the Day 1 action.
On the final hand of the day at the table, Ankush Mandavia raised to 13,000 from the hijack seat. Justin Bonomo was on the button and reraised all in for about 140,000-150,000.
