Stammen Doubles Through Winter, More Bubble Play

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Keven Stammen just doubled up through Sean Winter.

After an opening raise by Winter, Stammen shoved from the button and Winter called. The remaining three tables hovered around the table awaiting the run out.

Finally, once play had stopped at the other tables the dealer was ready to run out the board.

Stammen had pocket queens, {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}, and Winter had {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Stammen would double up.

Sammartino Busts Akkari Two Off the Money

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
André Akkari
André Akkari

From under the gun, Italian Dario Sammartino raised to 24,000. Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari reraised all in for 163,000 from the hijack seat. Play folded back to Sammartino, and he quickly called with the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Akkari had the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

The {Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{J-Hearts} board didn't give Akkari anything he found useful, and Sammartino won the pot to send the Brazilian out the door in 33rd place — just two spots off the money.

The remaining 32 players were then officially on the bubble.

Time for Hand-for-Hand Play

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Following the double up of Chalie Hook, the tournament staff announced that field would go to hand-for-hand play with 33 remaining. The top 31 spots were set to pay out, but because of the pace of play, the staff wanted to deter some from possible stalling.

Hook Doubles

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

From middle position, Chance Kornuth raised to 20,000. Dario Sammartino called from the cutoff seat, and Chalie Hook reraised all in for 63,000 from the button. Kornuth reshoved for over 700,000, and Sammartino folded.

Kornuth had the {J-Spades}{8-Spades}, which meant Hook and his {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} were in good shape to double up and then some.

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, and Hook doubled.
