Big Double for Qu

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Several minutes into the break, Boyuan Qu was in the tank on the {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts} board. His opponent, Gionni Demers, had put Qu all in, and Qu looked pained with his decision and a remaining stack of 89,100. The pot at the time was about 120,000 in chips.

Eventually, Qu made the call with the {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for top pair and a gutshot straight draw, but his decision was sped up a little bit thanks to Demers calling the clock. He was up against the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for Demers, which was good for a pair of eights, a flush draw, and a straight draw.

Despite all the outs he held, Demers missed when the {6-Diamonds} hit the board on the river, and Qu won the pot.

"Tough call," Qu said to a friend watching the completion of the hand. "I thought he had queens or kings, or something. I can't fold there."

Kings Propel 2011 Runner-Up Chris Oliver to a Double

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Benjamin Pollak opened for 4,500 from early position only to have 2011 PCA runner-up Chris Oliver three-bet to 13,500. Action folded back to Pollak, who ripped, and Oliver called off for 64,400 total.

Oliver: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Pollak: {a-}{q-}

The board ran out {2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and Oliver shipped the double.

Nice Turn Call By Esfandiari

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

With around 35,000 in the pot and a board reading {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{a-Clubs}, Antonio Esfandiari checked from the big blind and James Calderaro bet 16,000 from the under-the-gun position. Esfandiari took his time before making the call and then both players checked the {6-Diamonds} river.

Esfandiari tabled the {5-Spades}{4-Clubs} for jacks and fives, and it was good enough to win as Calderaro mucked his hand.

Spitale Doubles Huge Through Ferrera

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

On the button, Argentina's Franco Spitale raised to 5,000. The player in the small blind made the call and left himself with just 17,500 behind, and then action fell on Keith Ferrera in the big blind. He reraised to 16,000, but Spitale kicked things up a little higher to 37,000. The player in the small blind took some time to think, knowing that if he called the four-bet from Spitale that it would put him all in. Eventually, that player gave it up, and action moved back to Ferrera.

Ferrera took some time, eyeing the stack of Spitale and looking as though he was going to kick it up one more notch. Not only did Ferrera kick it up a notch, but he went for the gusto with a five-bet shove. Spitale quickly called and turned over the {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Ferrera had a dominated {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

The flop, turn, and river ran out {Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{J-Hearts}, and Spitale earned the win with his big slick. Ferrera had Spitale covered, but not by a whole lot. He was left with 30,000 in chips.

Anderson Takes a Big Hit Losing to Ace-High

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Neeraj Madhvani raised to 4,600 under the gun and Calvin Anderson called from middle position. Joao Ribeiro came along from the big blind and three players took a flop of {7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Ribeiro checked, Madhvani bet 7,600, and both his opponents called to see the {6-Spades} turn.

Ribeiro checked for a second time, Madhvani moved all in for 51,200, and Anderson thought for a bit before making the call. Ribeiro folded and the cards were turned up.

Madhvani: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Anderson: {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Madhvani was bluffing but was technically ahead with ace-high. However, Anderson was drawing to two live cards, clubs, and an open-ended straight. Amazingly, he missed when the {5-Hearts} blanked on the river and Madhvani's ace-high won him the pot.
