Muehloecker, Durnegger Jousting for Lead as 12 Remain in $25K

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Thomas Mühlöcker
Thomas Mühlöcker

Twenty levels of play have expired in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller, and a couple of Austrian imports are dominating here at Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas.

At the very top of the counts sits Thomas Muehloecker with 1,420,000, following closely by countryman Markus Durnegger with 1,385,000. The two sat at the same table for the final couple of levels of the night after the two-table redraw, and all of the chips seemed intent on a ski trip as they made their way into the stacks of the Austrians without the two butting heads.

Gianluca Speranza had held the lead but lost it when he tried an old-fashioned three-barrel with air and got caught by Muehloecker, who called down with pocket sevens on a nine-high board. Muehloecker then busted Bartlomiej Machon in a flip.

As for Durnegger, he busted Ben Heath in a flip worth about 1 million during the final level of the night, Level 20 (8,000/16,000/16,000).

The two have put considerable distance between themselves and the field as the next closest player is Sam Greenwood with 880,000. Greenwood, of course, has put together a phenomenal PCA thus far, with a win in the $100K Super High Roller and twin cashes in the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold'em Championship and the Main Event.

Others making the final 12, putting themselves in contention for the $895,110 top prize, included Nick Petrangelo, Dominik Nitsche and Sean Winter.

That comes out of a prize just shy of $3.85 million, after 11 buzzer-beating entries pushed the field to 162. There were 23 paid places, and Mike Watson would bubble the event, while Jesus Cortes, Dario Sammartino and Preben Stokkan were among those getting paid.

Cortes is on a fantastic run himself at the PCA as he got third in the $100K and second in a $25K Single-Day High Roller for over $1 million in prize money.

Play continues Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. local time as part of the final day of the 2019 PCA. They'll play down to a champion starting at 10,000/20,000/20,000, and you can follow all of the updates here on PokerNews.

Ben Heath Eliminated in 13th Place ($65,440)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Ben Heath
Ben Heath

Ben Heath opened to 32,000 in the hijack and Nick Petrangelo called from the cutoff. Markus Durnegger three-bet to 125,000 on the button and the blinds both folded. Heath pushed all in for around 485,000 which got Petrangelo to fold and Durnegger made the call.

Markus Durnegger: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Ben Heath: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The flop of {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} gave Heath a pair of kings and the lead. However, the {9-Hearts} on the turn improved Durnegger to a set and only a queen would save Heath. The river was the {k-Hearts} and Heath exited the tournament in 13th place.

Bartlomiej Machon
Bartlomiej Machon

Bartlomiej Machon shoved from under the gun for 156,000. Thomas Muehloecker set him at risk from the button with {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Machon was flipping with {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} but the {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{j-Spades} board provided him with little sweat.

Jesús Cortes

Jesus Cortes shoved under the gun for 209,000 and action folded to Kelvin Kerber in the cutoff. He shoved as well for 367,000 and everyone else mucked.

Jesus Cortes: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Kelvin Kerber: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Spades} board had Kerber fading only a chop by the turn and he sent Cortes to the rail. It's Cortes' third big cash here at the 2019 PCA after he got third in the $100K Super High Roller and second in a $25K.

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Dario Sammartino slipped below the 10 big blind mark and finally picked up a hand to go with from under the gun for 133,000. Dominik Nitsche called from a couple of seats over and the rest of the table folded.

Dominik Nitsche: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Dario Sammartino: {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

The flop of {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} gave Sammartino some counterfeit outs but the {10-Spades} on the turn had him drawing dead. Nitsche made a full house and Sammartino headed to the payout desk.

Watson Eliminated on the Money Bubble

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Mike Watson
Mike Watson

Dominik Nitsche raised it up from under the gun and Mike Watson called from the big blind on the short stack. The flop came {j-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Spades} and the two players got all of the chips in the middle with Watson at risk for around 50,000.

Dominik Nitsche: {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Mike Watson: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Nitsche had the best hand with a pair of eights but Watson held two overcards and a flush draw. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn and the {q-Hearts} on the river bricked off and Watson was eliminated on the money bubble.

Huge Pot Ensues on the Bubble

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Thomas Boivin
Thomas Boivin

The action folded to Thomas Boivin on the button who just limped in. Ben Heath shipped all in for 217,000 in the small blind and Preben Stokkan asked for a count in the big blind. Stokkan made the call and Boivin re-shoved all in for 284,500, which Stokkan called.

Ben Heath: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Preben Stokkan: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Thomas Boivin: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Three big hands appeared but it was Boivin who held a distinct advantage with his pocket aces. However, a sick run out of {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Spades} gave Heath a straight for the main pot, and Stokkan a set of queens for the side pot. Boivin had his aces cracked and was sent to the rail.

The final 24 players are conducting a quick redraw before the stone money bubble resumes.

Dario Sammartino: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Kristina Holst: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Holst began gathering her stuff as the {3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts} hit the board, and the {6-Hearts} and {5-Clubs} turn and river danced around her.

Foxen Gets Run Down

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

Alex Foxen shoved for 44,500 over an open by Jesus Cortes, who called with {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Foxen was in good shape to keep his comeback going as he had {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

The {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} left Cortes in need of runner-runner against top set. The {3-Hearts} got him halfway there and he hit his straight on the {2-Diamonds} river.
