Welcome Back to Day 2 of the $25,000 PCA High Roller

It was an action-packed opening day of the $25,000 PCA High Roller that saw an impressive number of players take to the felt. In total, there were 151 entries with just 65 of those players moving on to Day 2.

As one of the greatest $25,000 high roller stops on the tour, players from all over the world show up in the Bahamas, even those you don't often see playing in these marquee events. One of those is chipleader Lucas Reeves who bagged up 247,000 chips after an impressive opening day. Reeves has just over $176,000 in recorded tournament earnings with his biggest payday coming for just over $46,000. With a strong finish here, Reeves could lock up a six or seven figure payday and show that he belongs with the big boys.

The field was littered with notable names at each and every table, making for some of the toughest poker played this week. One other name near the top of the leaderboard to keep an eye on includes Jesus Cortes who already has a second and a third place finish in high roller events earlier this week. Cortes bagged up 239,000 and sits in fourth place, not far off the chip lead.

With late registration remaining open until the action gets underway on Day 2, there is still time for players to exchange $25,000 for a 50,000 chip starting stack. That will equate to 25 big blinds as the action will resume on level 11 at 1,000/2,000 and a 2,000 big blind ante. The cards are expected to get in the air at 12:30 p.m. local time with another 10 levels on the schedule for today.

The prize pool has been broken down and released to the players. The 162 entries created a total pool of $3,849,930. There will be 23 places paid, with the winner of the event banking $895,110, while a min-cash in 23rd will be worth $44,660.

Huge Pot Ensues on the Bubble

The action folded to Thomas Boivin on the button who just limped in. Ben Heath shipped all in for 217,000 in the small blind and Preben Stokkan asked for a count in the big blind. Stokkan made the call and Boivin re-shoved all in for 284,500, which Stokkan called.

Three big hands appeared but it was Boivin who held a distinct advantage with his pocket aces. However, a sick run out of gave Heath a straight for the main pot, and Stokkan a set of queens for the side pot. Boivin had his aces cracked and was sent to the rail.

The final 24 players are conducting a quick redraw before the stone money bubble resumes.

Watson Eliminated on the Money Bubble

Dominik Nitsche raised it up from under the gun and Mike Watson called from the big blind on the short stack. The flop came and the two players got all of the chips in the middle with Watson at risk for around 50,000.

Nitsche had the best hand with a pair of eights but Watson held two overcards and a flush draw. The on the turn and the on the river bricked off and Watson was eliminated on the money bubble.

Dario Sammartino slipped below the 10 big blind mark and finally picked up a hand to go with from under the gun for 133,000. Dominik Nitsche called from a couple of seats over and the rest of the table folded.

The flop of gave Sammartino some counterfeit outs but the on the turn had him drawing dead. Nitsche made a full house and Sammartino headed to the payout desk.

Jesus Cortes shoved under the gun for 209,000 and action folded to Kelvin Kerber in the cutoff. He shoved as well for 367,000 and everyone else mucked.

The board had Kerber fading only a chop by the turn and he sent Cortes to the rail. It's Cortes' third big cash here at the 2019 PCA after he got third in the $100K Super High Roller and second in a $25K.
