Better Straight for Akkari

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Jorge Cantos raised from under the gun and Andre Akkari defended his big blind. The {9-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop went check/check, Akkari bet 21,000 on the {8-Hearts} turn and Cantos called, then went for an 83,000 bet on the {7-Hearts} river. Cantos called without hesitation.

Akkari showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and Cantos was about to reveal the first card of his {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} when he noticed Akkari having a higher straight. He still revealed it and handed over the chips.

Calamusa's Dramatic Day Continues

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Pierre Calamusa
Pierre Calamusa

Pierre Calamusa started the day as the chip leader but has tumbled down to just half a million now. His last hand got lost in cruel fashion against Maria Ho, who was all in and at risk with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} against the {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} of Calamusa.

The camera's swooped in from all sides to catch the runout and the {10-Clubs}{J-Spades}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} board improved Ho to an improbable straight to keep her Main Event dream alive. Calamusa simply nodded and jumped back on his phone straight away to inform his friends about the beat he just suffered.

Big Stacks Altman and Simao Building Tension

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

In what was presumably a three-bet pot, Joao Simao bet 38,000 on a {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop and Brian Altman called on the button. On the {8-Spades} turn, Simao checked, Altman bet 100,000 straight and Simao called.

Both players checked the {Q-Hearts} on the river. Simao rolled over {Q-Spades}{6-Spades} for a rivered pair of queens and Altman mucked.

Kaempf Busts to Berkey

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Philipp Kaempf
Philipp Kaempf

Philipp Kaempf opened to 17,000 from early position. Marc-Andre Ladouceur, in the hijack, called, along with Matt Berkey in the big blind.

A flop reading {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} was dealt. Berkey checked. Kaempf bet 20,000. Ladouceur called. Berkey check-raised to 85,000. Kaempf went deep into the tank before moving all in for around 195,000. Ladouceur folded and Berkey snap-called.

Matt Berkey: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Philipp Kaempf: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

The {7-Diamonds} turn and {2-Spades} river filled up the board and Berkey raked in the pot, sending Kaempf to the exit.

Vohra Slashes Hakim in Half

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Rajesh Vohra
Rajesh Vohra

In a blind on blind confrontation between Jeff Hakim (small) and Rajesh Vohra (big), the board was reading {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Hakim checked to Vohra. Vohra cut out two T-25,000 chips and Hakim called the bet.

The river was the {4-Spades} and Hakim checked. This time, Vohra went for a large bet of 180,000 and Hakim called it off without needing to use a time bank card. Vohra showed him the bad news with {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a set, forcing Hakim to part with a sizable chunk of his stack.

Marc Perrault: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Dzmitry Urbanovich: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

Oliveira Chips Up Without Showdown

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Enrico Camosci opened to 16,000 first to act and was called by Christoph Vogelsang in the hijack. Filipe Oliveira on the button had other plans and squeezed to 72,000, which both Camosci and Vogelsang called. The flop came {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and action checked to Oliveira, who bet 60,000 in order to force two folds.
