Wong Versus Wong

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We are not sure who made the wrong move at the right time as we only caught the tail end of the hand, but arrived in time to see Joey Wong (cut-off) check call a 2,500 river bet from button and namesake Fat Cheong Wong on a board reading {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Spades} {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} with close to 6,000 already in the pot.

Joey Wong did not look happy about it, and had apparently been raised on the turn, but threw in the call and the cards were turned over.

Fat Cheong Wong had started the hand in position with the speculative {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and had turned two pairs. Joey Wong flashed him two red aces {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} but these went straight into the muck and his opponent scooped the pot and all that excitement concludes the level.

Hui Flushes Out Lok

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante
Aric Hui
Aric Hui

For a time it looked like Gino Lok’s tournament was moving in the right direction but that is no longer the case with Aric Hui bringing Lok’s tournament to a premature close.

We missed all of the carnage but were filled in on the action by Justin Chan. It was Aric Hui who was the initial aggressor from late position with Gino Lok getting aggressive on the button and re-raising, though we are unsure of the exact amounts.

Lok called and all the fireworks happened on the flop, which came down a car-crash-tastic {Q-}{J-Hearts}{4-Hearts} – as you will see from the hands below.

Hui checked it over to Lok, who fired for 2,000, Hui re-raised to 6,000, Lok shoved and Hui called and the hands were turned over.

Gino Lok: {q-}{q-}
Aric Hui: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Unfortunately for Lok the {10-Hearts} came straight in on the turn to complete Hui’s flush and there was no pair up on the {k-Diamonds} river and we have our second casualty of the day and a new table captain with Hui now holding an early lead.

Cheong Wins One, Pushes Leung Off another; Ace-high Good for Chan

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

There are still eight players in the running and while there has been no more carnage there are a couple of small pots that have played out recently.

In the first, it was Sam Cheong opening the action with a raise to 500 from the hi-jack, with Joey Wong (cutoff) making the call in addition to Aric Hui (big blind).

Hui checked the {3-Hearts}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop over to Cheong, who continuation-bet 600, with Wong the only caller. This slowed Cheong down some, and he checked the {9-Spades} turn over to Wong, who bet 1,200 and Cheong folded immediately.

Chunkit Leung opened the action with a raise to 500 from middle position the next hand. Leung has been fairly quiet here so far today, but that fact did not deter Sam Cheong from making the call and it was heads-up to a flop of {3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}.

Leung shot Cheong a side-long stare as the flop came down, but with his hoodie up and Subzero facemask on Cheong was giving nothing away. Eventually, Leung chose to c-bet 600, which Cheong called once more and the {q-Spades} hit the turn.

Leung decided to continue to see a believable story, firing again for 1,600 but Cheong was not buying it and quickly re-raised to 3,200. It seems Cheong’s spidey senses are spot on as Leung quickly folded leaving Cheong to rake in the pot unopposed.

It was Fat Cheong Wong the man driving the action in the next hand, making it 550 to go from the hi-jack and picking up two callers – Wingkei Chan (cutoff) and Justin Chan (big blind).

Justin Chan checked the {4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades} flop over to Wong, who c-bet 600 with Wingkei chan the only caller. That was it for the betting in the hand with both players checking the {9-Spades} turn and {8-Spades} river.

Wong turned over {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for queen-high, but this was not enough to beat Chan’s {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} ace-high and he won a small pot.

A Storm Over the Atlantic

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

This looks like our last opportunity to get in a cheeky ocean pun and [Removed:151] has just run into a bit of a brutal cooler to bring his Day 1B to an end.

It all started with a Sam Cheong limp from under-the-gun and action folded around to Chang on the button, who squeezed his cards before raising to 1,600. Cheong pulled out the limp check-raise for the second time today (he folded the last time he did this and got re-raised) and made it 3,200 to go.

Both Chang and Cheong are the two short stacks so you can see where this is going. Chang moved all-in for 7,650 in total and Cheong beat him into the pot.

Sam Cheong: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
[Removed:151]: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

That’s a pretty brutal setup hand if ever we have seen one and the board ran out {3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} to give Cheong a much-needed double-up and leave Chang with a bowl of rice – a paltry 275 in chips.

This was all in the middle the next hand after Fat Cheong Wong limped in early position and Wingkei Chan made the call. Justin Chan called from the button, as did blinds Chunkit Leung and Sam Cheung and it was six-way to a flop of {3-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

Action checked around to Justin Chan on the button, and he made it 1,000 to go. The table folded back around to Wingkei Chan, who looked tempted but eventually thought better of it and folded, leaving Chan to win the 300 side pot and the cards were turned over.

[Removed:151]: {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Justin Chan: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}

While Chang had paired his three Chan had flopped top two and the {9-Clubs} turn left Chang drawing dead, with the {k-Diamonds} river giving Chan a boat, just to twist the knife. Chang is out and Chan is up to 18,525.

Leung Goes One for One

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Chunkit Leung opened the action with an under-the-gun raise to 600 with Fat Cheong Wong the only caller in middle position.
The flop fell {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Wong’s cards were in the muck as soon as Leung reached for chips.

Unfortunately for Leung, he was not able to hold on to his new-found wealth all that long with the action folding around to Justin Chan in the small blind the very next hand. Needing no further encouragement Chan juiced the action up to 900 and Leung chose to defend from the big blind.

Chan c-bet the {4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{5-Spades} turn for 800 and Leung called pretty quickly. This slowed Chan right down and he checked the {10-Hearts} turn over to Leung, who decided to take a stab for 1,500.

Chan thought it over for a bit and then threw in the call and the {8-Hearts} river completed the hand. Chan checked once more and Leung decided to buy the pot with a bet of 3,300.

Chan thought long and hard before throwing in the call and Leung tapped the table, turning over {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} with Chan tabling {10-Spades}{6-Spades} to take the hand.
