Whether Yu will be returning to defend his title remains to be seen, but there should be some scintillating poker on display for the next few days.
Players start with 50,000 in chips and have the option to reenter should the cards not fall their way, and have 40-minute levels in which to use them, with antes coming into play from level 2 onwards with Day 1 finishing at the end of level 9.

The Poker King Cup is well underway, with the HKD 3,000 Opening Event having started at 1pm and attracting 135 entrants, 101 of whom are still in the running at this time.
However, it is the HKD 80,000 PKC High Roller that will be our focus today, and that is set to start at 3pm local time (GMT+7).
Last year's event attracted 34 runners and generated an HKD 2,755,700 ($353,880) prize pool. It was Taiwan's Chung Yuan Yu the man to take it down for an HKD 1,020,700 ($131,076) payday after beating Thailand's most successful tournament player in the form of Phanlert Sukonthachartnant.
Cards will be in the air shortly so stick around and we'll bring you all the action as it happens.

The first few players that have registered for the High Roller have taken their seats at the table and the tournament director has instructed the dealer to shuffle up and deal.
The first five players are in their seats with four Chinese players in the form of Yue Peng Cheng, Mingqin Liu, Yang Yi Fan and Kuisong Wu all in action alongside the UK's William Fasano.

The board read and there was around 10,000 in the middle already. Yue Peng Cheng bet 6,200 from the small blind and was called by Kuisong Wu on the button.
The on the river completed the board and Cheng considered his options for a bit. After about a minute, Cheng opted to bet 11,100. Wu threw in a chip for the call and the dealer forced him to put in the full amount. Cheng flipped over for the turned straight and the improved flush on the river to scoop the pot.

Kuisong Wu's High Roller has not gotten off to the start the Chinese player wanted, with Wu losing a sizable early pot to the recently arrived defending champion Chung Yuan Yu.
It was the latter who was the initial aggressor, making it 600 to go from the hijack, with Wu opting to raise it up to 2,000 from the cutoff. The rest of the table bowed out and Yu tossed in the extras to take the action heads-up to the flop.
Yu opted to lead for 3,000 and Wu did not take long to make the call, keeping the pair in action to the turn, pairing the board. This brought two checks and the dealer peeled off the river card.
Yu thought it over before deciding the right amount to bet was 7,500. The Taiwanese player was spot on with his bet sizing as Wu made the call after some careful contemplation, but could only muck when Yu rolled over for the turned full house.
Yu is now the early frontrunner with a stack of 62,500 while Wu is the short stack with 14,500 chips behind.

With some more arrivals to the field, the second table in the High Roller has now been opened. Kok Soon Tay from Singapore and Duan Chao and He Chang from China have taken their seats at the table. On the first table, Spain's Sergio Aido has joined the fray.
The tournament has already attracted a sizeable rail with about 30 people that have gathered to look over the player's shoulder. In fact, the whole table has been moved to a new table to provide some distance between the players and the rail.
