Huang Holds Early Lead

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

In what's proving to be a busy day, the number of Day 1B entries continues to climb, coming in at 119 at present, with 95 players still in the running and fighting it out over 12 tournament tables.

The man who seems to be out in front at present is Taiwan's Fu Bang Huang, who has pressed on since winning that big pot with aces earlier and has spun his stack up to around 110,000 or so, which puts him atop the counts for now.

Singapore's Richard Lim (82,000) was the only other player we could find anywhere close to Huang, with most of the rest of the field closer to the 37,000 average.

A slew of fresh faces have joined during the break, with James Chen one of the latest arrivals. A prolific high stakes cash player, Chen also boasts some stellar tournament results and currently sits atop the Taiwanese All Time Money List with over $4 million in live tournament winnings. Chen's many accolades include two Aussie Millions titles and three High Roller titles, all won in Macau. Let's hope the rest of his table have their seatbelts fastened.

Hung Sheng Lin is another Taiwanese player with a pedigree in the running; a former Asia Player of the Year, Lin sits at #9 on the Taiwanese All Time Money List, with over $700,000 in live tournament winnings with ten live titles on his poker resume.

There have been 104 entries so far for the second starting flight of the Poker King Cup Taiwan Main Event, with 90 players still in the running.

So far, two trophies have been awarded this series, with a further eight events left to play out. the man to bag the first piece of silverware was the UK's Alex Lindop, who bested a 61-strong field in Event #1 TWD 11,000 No Limit Hold'em for a TWD 177,400 (~$5,660), with nine players cashing for a share of the TWD 591,700 (~$18,890) prize pool.

Break Time

Level 3 : 75/150, 150 ante

The 62 Day 1B players are on their first 15-minute break of the day as the green 25 chips are colored up and removed from play.

Huang Starts Strong

Level 3 : 75/150, 150 ante

Fu Bang Huang is another new entry, though the Taiwanese player is a familiar face on the Asian poker circuit, and boasts over $265,000 in live tournament winnings and five live tournament titles.

Huang is off to a great start, doubling his 30,000 start stack not long after taking his seat after getting all the chips in pre-flop with {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} against another opponent who was unfortunate enough to wake up with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} in late position after Huang had opened the betting action.

The {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} runout was good for the overpair and Huang stacked up to 60,000.

Yam Exits, Wai King Cheung Re-enters and More New Faces

Level 3 : 75/150, 150 ante

Hong Kong's Edward Yam has become one of the early casualties, though with registration remaining open until the end of level 9, he still has plenty of time to re-enter.

There have been yet more new arrivals, with the number of entries growing to 69, with 62 of these still in the running.

Gruendemann Gets Going

Level 3 : 75/150, 150 ante
Mark Gruendemann
Mark Gruendemann

Ireland's Mark Gruendemann has not long taken his seat and has wasted no time padding out his stack in a multiway pot.

Following an under-the-gun limp, Gruendemann made the call from one seat over, as did neighbor Kedong Liu, button Carson Wong and both players in the blinds to take the action six-way to a flop of {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

Action checked to Gruendemann, who took a stab for 1,050 with Liu the only caller. The {10-Diamonds} turn saw both remaining player check, with Gruendemann taking another stab on the {9-Spades} river, betting 3,000 into a pot of 3,200.

Liu examined the board closely but eventually decided that a fold was the best option, leaving Gruendemann to scoop the pot and climb to 53,200. Liu still has evidently been busy though as still has 64,000 in chips, even after making the fold.
