Vytautas Milbutas Bags Monster Chiplead After PokerNews Cup Day 1a

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Vytautas Milbutas
Vytautas Milbutas

The first flight of the 2017 PokerNews Cup attracted 87 entrants, and after 15 levels of play today only 15 will be advancing to Day 2 this coming Sunday 20th August.

There were a host of familiar names at the King's Casino in Rozvadov, amongst them chiKKita banAAna, Sebastian Langrock and Philipp Zukernik, but at the end of play it was Lithuanian player Vytautas Milbutas who bagged up the chiplead of 696,000.

Twice today Milbutas eliminated two players in a single hand, including one where he eliminated local favourite chiKKita banAAna when Milbutas' tens cracked his opponent's jacks. However, Milbutas achieved an even more astounding feat earlier in the day, in a hand which demonstrated his psychic abilities.

Milbutas played the role of psychic in a pot where he had another player at risk. The player asked him whether he held sevens, and Milbutas replied: "No, I have a straight flush draw." Milbutas showed {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and his opponent showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} giving a straight flush to Milbutas only moments after he said that he had a straight flush draw.

At the end of the night Milbutas reflected on the day.

"I ran pretty well," he said, laughing about the straight flush hand. "It's like Negreanu, he says all sorts of things while he is playing, but people only remember the stuff and his predictions where he was right.

"It was funny to do that then; I got lucky. For me it was pure fun!"

Asked whether he had run this well in a tournament, Milbutas said he had been playing a lot recently, especially in Cyprus.

"For the last three years I've played so many tournaments. I like how I play, but the big thing is that I'm really talkative at the tables. Because of that people tend to underestimate me, or overestimate themselves. But I've never run quite like that!"

A full list of players left after Day 1a is posted below.

Day 1b starts tomorrow Friday the 18th August at 5 p.m. local time. Join the PokerNews team live from Rozvadov for all the updates from the second flight of this year's PokerNews Cup.

Milbautas Extends his Chiplead

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Vytautas Milbutas
Vytautas Milbutas

Vytautas Milbutas raised to 6,000 from under the gun. The player in the cutoff called and chiKKita banAAna three-bet to 25,500. Timothy Weltner moved all in for his last 26,500 from the small blind and the big blind folded.

Milbutas raised to 66,000 and the cutoff folded. chiKKita banAAna moved all in and Milbutas flicked in a chip for a call and tabled {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. With a triumphant cry chiKKita banAAna tabled {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Weitner {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

"Please no bad beat," said chiKKita banAAna in German, but there was a ten in the window of a {10-Spades}{2-Spades}{q-Spades} flop. "Spades!" he said as the turn came the {8-Diamonds}. "Nine!" he said, but the river was the {3-Clubs} and chiKKita banAAna was sent grumbling into the night after this bad beat. Weitner was also packing up his things after failing to improve.

Milbutas now sits on over half a million chips with the end of the day approaching.

Langrock Done Again

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Sebastian Langrock
Sebastian Langrock

Sebastian Langrock defended his big blind to a raise by chip leader Jörg Ferdinand Kunz and checked the {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop. Kunz moved all in and Langrock called for his last 11,000.

Sebastian Langrock: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Jörg Ferdinand Kunz: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

"How can you hit like that all the time?" Langrock asked and was in need of help. Both the {5-Diamonds} turn and {6-Spades} river were blanks and Langrock's second bullet was gone.

Straight Flush for Psychic Milbutas

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Vytautas Milbutas
Vytautas Milbutas

A player in middle position raised to 4,000 and Vytautas Milbutas called in the cutoff. The player in the small blind also called before a fourth player moved all in for his last 24,000 from the big blind. The initial raiser folded, Milbutas called from a stack of around 80,000 and the small blind folded.

"Do you have sevens?" asked the all-in player.

"No," replied Milbutas confidently, "I have a straight flush draw."

Milbutas tabled {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} with a big grin on his face, and his opponent showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. The turn was the {2-Diamonds}, which gave Milbutas a flush and had his opponent drawing dead. However, the best was yet to come.

Astonishingly, the river was the {3-Diamonds} and Milbutas's preflop prediction came true as he made his straight flush and eliminated his opponent.

Sebastian Langrock
Sebastian Langrock

Sebastian Langrock raised to 1,800 from middle position. The player in the cutoff called before Jorg Kunz three-bet to 7,500 from the button. Langrock called and the cutoff folded.

The flop came {k-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Langrock check-called a bet of 10,500 from Kunz. Langrock check-called 15,000 on the {8-Hearts} turn and the river was the {8-Diamonds}.

With the hint of a smile playing on Langrock's lips, he checked and Kunz checked behind. Langrock showed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Kunz took down the pot with {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

A short while later, having been left with around ten big blinds following this hand, Langrock was eliminated.

Vytautas Milbutas
Vytautas Milbutas

A player raised from middle position to 1,000 and Vytautas Milbutas flat-called in the next position. Remi Blanc was in the hijack and moved all in for around 12,000 and after folding to Marek Blasko in the big blind, he too moved all in for around 5,000. The initial player folded.

With an almost evil-sounding chuckle, Milbutas called, flashing his cards to the initial raiser before tabling {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. Blanc showed {q-Spades}{8-Spades} and Blasko {k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Milbutas eliminated both players.

Patrick Ielpo

Joining the action on the {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} turn, Patrick Ielpo bet 8,550 from the cutoff and Bahman called from one seat over. The {A-Hearts} fell on the river and Ielpo shoved fopr his last 16,500, which Bahman quickly called.

Ielpo turned over {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flush and Bahman had that beat after getting there on the river, showing {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a full house.

Van De Linde Scores First Elimination of the Day

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Ronald van de Linde
Ronald van de Linde

The player under the gun limped and a player in middle position raised to 400. Ronald Van De Linde called in the cutoff before Yaron Kuznik four-bet to 1,725 from the button. The other three players all called.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. It checked to Kuznik who continued for 2,725 and Van De Linde was the only caller.

The turn was the {8-Spades}. Van De Linde checked and Kuznik bet 7,200. Van De Linde took his time carefully stacking each denomination of chip on top of eachother in turn, before pausing and sliding his chips into the middle. Kuznik threw a chip in the middle, instantly calling.

Van De Linde: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Kuznik: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Kuznik had flopped trips but Van De Linde had turned a full house. The river was the {2-Hearts} and Kuznik was eliminated. As he got to his feet, Van De Linde gestured to the flop: "You could have had something like Ace-King," he said.

After picking up an early pot, Van De Linde now adds an elimination to his name and now sits on more than double starting stack towards the end of the second level of the day.
