Jiang Takes from Petrangelo

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

In one of the last hands of the level, Nick Petrangelo raised to 50,000 on the button and Sosia Jiang called out of the big blind. The duo checked the {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{J-Spades} flop before the {5-Hearts} on the turn saw both players invest 55,000 each. After the {6-Diamonds} river, Jiang bet 250,000 and Petrangelo called, then mucked when he was shown {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a full house by Jiang.

Petrangelo Wins Back-To-Back Hands Against Quenneville

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Hand 1

In the cutoff, Nick Petrangelo raised to 50,000 and Troy Quenneville defended the big blind. On the {J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, the duo checked. Quenneville bet the {6-Clubs} turn for 96,000 and Petrangelo called before the {A-Clubs} river completed the board. Quenneville checked and Petrangelo fired 280,000, forcing a fold from his opponent.

Hand 2

Quenneville limped in from the small blind and Petrangelo checked. On a flop of {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Quenneville bet 24,000 and Petrangelo called before the {J-Diamonds} fell on the turn. Quenneville now checked and called a bet worth 105,000 before checking the {5-Clubs} river.

Petrangelo bet 450,000 for most of his stack and Quenneville called to get shown {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the second nutflush. Quenneville mucked {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a flopped straight and turned inferior flush, almost evening out the stacks of the two players.

Petrangelo Wins With Trash, Bansal Takes From Quenneville

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

There have been a couple small but interesting pots recently with Nick Petrangelo winning the first. Action folded around to Sosia Jiang on the button and she opened to 50,000 and Petrangelo decided to defend his big blind.

Both players checked the {j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop and Petrangelo seized the initiative on the {5-Spades} turn, leading out for 45,000.

Jiang made the call and the {k-Clubs} river completed the hand. There was no more betting and Petrangelo took down the pot with the mighty {7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} to pad out his stack a little after Jiang mucked.

A couple of hands later Raghav Bansal (big blind) chose to call a Troy Quenneville button raise of 54,000 taking the action heads-up to a {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop.

Bansal checked it over to Quenneville, who c-bet 93,000 and the Indian player made the call to bring in the {k-Spades} turn. This brought a second check from Bansal and a second barrel from Quenneville, this one a slightly larger 139,000.

Bansal mulled it over and tossed in the call and the {10-Hearts} river completed the hand. There was no more betting and first to act, meaning first to show, Bansal turned over {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Quenneville tapped the table and folded and Bansal scooped the pot.

Ben Lai Eliminated in 5th Place (HK$1,170,000)

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Ben Lai
Ben Lai

Sosia Jiang raised to 54,000 and Ben Lai called all in for that exact amount on the button. Raghav Bansal was in the big blind and leaned over from his chair to see if Lai had any further chips left, and Lai then grabbed his box of mints and put it on the cards. Bansal joked "if I win this, I get those as well?" and Lai grabbed the mints and tossed them over with a smile on the face. Bansal then called.

Both remaining active players checked the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop, the {2-Hearts} turn and the {J-Clubs} river. "I have a deuce" Bansal announced and showed {6-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Jiang had that beat with {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and Lai's {J-Spades}{8-Spades} ended up third-best to eliminate the player from Hong Kong in 5th place for HK$1,170,000 (~US$152,100). The remaining four players already have HK$1,465,000 locked up, which equals approximately US$190,450.

Jiang Takes from Quenneville

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Sosia Jiang raised to 54,000 and Troy Quenneville three-bet to 221,000 on the button, which Jiang called. On the {A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop and the {K-Hearts} turn, both players checked. Jiang then checked the {J-Hearts} river and Quenneville bet 180,000. Jiang quickly called and the Canadian sighed before turning over the {J-Spades}{9-Spades} for a pair of jacks only.

Jiang showed {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and that won the pot.

Big Double For Bansal

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Ben Lai and Raghav Bansal have just played a big pot. Pre-flop it was Bansal the man in the driver’s seat, opening with a raise to 51,000 from the cutoff with Lai calling from the big blind.

Lai checked the {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop over to Bansal, who continuation bet 58,000, which Lai quickly called before checking the {4-Spades} turn.

The Hong Kong player evidently had plans for the hand however, and after Bansal fired again, betting out 132,000, Lai slid out a check-raise totalling 300,000.

Bansal sat back and took off the sunglasses, sizing up Lai before thowing in the call with 5-seconds left on the shot clock and the river came down {k-Clubs}.

Now he had the initiative in the hand Lai looked loath to lose it and quickly moved all-in for roughly 900,000, sending the Indian player deep into the think tank, where he remained for the full 30-seconds, burning through his last remaining time bank chip before tossing in the call with seconds to spare.

Lai rolled over {j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Bansal stood up and gave a quiet but heartfelt ‘yeah!’ slapping down {6-Spades}{9-Spades} for flopped two pair. That tough call saw Bansal stack up to 2.4 million while Lai is left with a bowl of rice – a paltry 75,000.

Lai and Quenneville Scoop Pots

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Ben Lai raised to 50,000 and Sosia Jiang defended the big blind. On the {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, both players checked and Jiang also checked the {10-Diamonds} turn. Lai bet 60,000 and Jiang called before the {Q-Hearts} river shut down all further betting action. Both checked and Jiang showed {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, which Lai had beat with {10-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Then, Raghav Bansal made it 51,000 to go from the button and Troy Quenneville called in the big blind. The {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop went check, check, and a bet of 98,000 by Quenneville on the {4-Diamonds} turn claimed the pot uncontested.

Jiang Pressures Petrangelo

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Sosia Jiang is turning the screws with Nick Petrangelo the man being put under pressure in this particular hand. Play had not long restarted following the break and Jiang opened the action with a raise to 52,000 from the cutoff.

Action folded around to Petrangelo in the big blind and he made the call with the flop falling {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. The action quickly went check, check with Petrangelo checking again on the {3-Hearts} turn.

Jiang decided to bet for 50,000 and Petrangelo did not take long to make the call the river came down {6-Diamonds}. Petrangelo checked again and Jiang quickly pulled the trigger and put the high-stakes specialist all in.

With a little over 500,000, the call would be for Petrangelo’s tournament life should he chose to make it. He looked sorely tempted, burning through the first of his three time bank chips before eventually folding with just a single second remaining on the shot clock and Jiang wins another.
