Mrakes in Charge as Day 5 of the Last-Ever PokerStars Championship Main Event Kicks Off at 12 p.m.

Michal Mrakes
Michal Mrakes

855 players entered, 15 remain after four days. At 12 p.m. local time, Day 5 of the last-ever PokerStars Championship Prague Main Event will get underway. It's been the tournament of hometown hero Michal Mrakes, who's been in the top of the standings throughout most of the tournament. Mrakes grabbed a monstrous chip lead on Day 4 and will kick off the penultimate day with 4,945,000 in chips, towering over the opposition led by Valentin Shabelnyk (3,225,000).

Mrakes currently holds $933,905 in lifetime winnings and is poised to jump over the fabled 1M mark in this tournament. The Czech's' biggest cash to date was made six months ago, when he won €200,000, and a fourth place or better in this tournament would top that achievement. Mrakes and his opponents already have €38,400 locked up for their respective deep runs, but all eyes are on the first place prize of €775,000 that awaits the winner on Monday night.

Despite the experience and chip lead going in, there's still a host of challengers ready to contest Mrakes for the title. Besides the aforementioned Shabelnyk, accomplished players like Robert Heidorn (2,485,000), Jason Wheeler (2,400,000), Matas Cimbolas (1,615,000), Harry Lodge (1,360,000), Pierre Calamusa (900,000) and Kalidou Sow (640,000) are still in contention as well. Alex Foxen also has a shot at PokerStars Championship glory, but the American breakout star of 2017 has his work cut out for him as he starts the day as the shortest stack in the room (470,000).

Down to just 35,000 after losing the big all in against Aleksandr Mordvinov earlier, Pierre Calamusa stuck his final chips in from the cutoff. Robert Heidorn isolated on the button to get the blinds out.

Pierre Calamusa: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Robert Heidorn: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

Calamusa was a favorite to get himself some more breathing room but it wasn't meant to be: {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}{K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

"Good luck boys,“ Calamusa said while making his exit. He'll take home €38,400 for his 15th place finish.

Down to his last 540,000, Serhii Popovych moved all in from under the gun. The action folded all the way around to Kalidou Sow, who checked his cards and called instantly right after.

Serhii Popovych: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Kalidou Sow: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

Popovych could all but sigh and smile about his unfortunate timing and the board ran out {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds} to send him to the rail in 14th place for €38,400. All remaining 13 players are now guaranteed at least €42,600 for their efforts.

Novat Golan shoved 650,000 from middle position and everyone folded to Jason Wheeler in the big blind. Wheeler looked at his cards, asked for a count and called a couple of seconds after getting the amount verified.

Novat Golan: {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Jason Wheeler: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

The {4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop didn't help Golan. The {10-Diamonds} on the turn gave him two additional outs but the {Q-Hearts} on the river wasn't one of them. Golan finished in 13th place and cashed €42,600.

Colin Robinson: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {7-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Lentrodt waved goodbye to his tablemates. The German exited in 12th place and received €42,600 for his accomplishment, the biggest cash of his poker career.

Robert Heidorn Eliminated in 11th Place (€47,500)

Michal Mrakes raised to 110,000 on the button and Robert Heidorn defended his big blind. The flop brought {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} and both players checked. On the {K-Clubs} turn, Heidorn checked, Mrakes bet 135,000, Heidorn moved all in and Mrakes quickly called.

Robert Heidorn: {J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Michal Mrakes: {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Heidorn needed a jack, four or club if he was to survive but the river was the {10-Hearts} to end his dreams in 11th place. The German collected €47,500 and surpassed $600,000 in lifetime winnings.

Alex Foxen Eliminated in 10th Place (€47,500)

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

Michal Mrakes raised to 130,000 first to act and Kalidou Sow called on the button, as did Aleksandr Mordvinov in the small blind. Alex Foxen looked over to Mordvinov and Sow to get any kind of reaction before announcing all in and that forced out Mrakes rather quickly.

Sow however asked for a count and the shove of Foxen was for 1,475,000. The Frenchman gave it some more thought and called while Mordvinov double-checked his cards and folded.

Alex Foxen: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Kalidou Sow: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Immediately after seeing the cards of his opponent, Foxen shook his head and wasn't very optimistic. On the board of {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, the American poker pro failed to catch any help and was eliminated in 10th place for €47,500. The remaining nine players will now redraw to the unofficial final table and action resumes after a short break to set up everything.

Aleksandr Mordvinov Eliminated in 9th Place (€57,500)

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Aleksandr Mordvinov
Aleksandr Mordvinov

Kalidou Sow raised to 130,000 from middle position. Behind him, Aleksandr Mordvinov once again reraised from a shallow stack and three-bet to 325,000. When action came back on Sow he called to see a flop.

With 830,000 already in the middle and 950,000 behind for Mordvinov, the two saw the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop appear. Sow checked, Mordvinov bet 260,000, Sow check-raised all in and Mordvinov instantly called.

Kalidou Sow: {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Aleksandr Mordvinov: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}

It was an amazing flop for Sow, who even was a 56% favorite to win the hand with his straight flush draw. Mordvinov needed his aces to hold up or he would be gone in 9th place.

The dealer dealt the turn that ended it all: {J-Hearts}! Sow hit his straight flush and Mordvinov removed his sunglasses to shake his opponent's hand. The meaningless {6-Diamonds} on the river was the last card Mordvinov would see in the tournament and he was out in 9th.

With Mordvinov's elimination, the official final table is now set. Play for the day will continue until six players are left.

Valentyn Shabelnyk
Valentyn Shabelnyk

Valentyn Shabelnyk raised to 130,000 in early position and Kalidou Sow called on the button. The flop was {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Shabelnyk checked. Sow bet 135,000, Shabelnyk check-raised all in for 1,100,000 and Sow called with lightning speed.

Valentyn Shabelnyk: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Kalidou Sow: {7-Spades}{6-Spades}

Sow already flopped great against Aleksandr Mordvinov earlier and now flopped near perfect with his suited connector, leaving Shabelnyk drawing nearly dead. Shabelnyk was relegated to just 2% in equity to keep his chances at the last-ever PokerStars Championship Main Event title alive.

The {3-Spades} on the turn officially left Shabelnyk drawing dead, leaving the {J-Clubs} river just for the statistics. Shabelnyk bowed out in 8th place and received €72,850, a new career-high cash for the Ukranian.

Matas Cimbolas
Matas Cimbolas

Matas Cimbolas theee-bet all in out of the small blind for 1,185,000 and initial raiser Kalidou Sow snap-called on the button to create the following showdown.

Matas Cimbolas: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Kalidou Sow: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The {J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop gave Cimbolas some more hope, but the {8-Hearts} turn and {5-Clubs} river were both blanks to send Cimbolas to the rail in 7th place. He takes home €104,000 for his efforts and narrowly missed out on tomorrow's showdown.

All remaining six players will now bag and tag for today before returning at 1 p.m. local time on Monday December 18th 2017 in order to play down to a winner.
