Shane Buchwald Gets Paid

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With about 1,100 in the pot and the board reading {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}, the player in the big blind led out for 700. The hijack called and Shane Buchwald raised to 3,500 from the cutoff. The big blind called and the hijack folded.

The river was the {a-Hearts} and the big blind checked. Buchwald fired out a bet of 5,575 and the big blind went into the tank. After counting his remaining chips and analyzing the situation for a minute or two, he called.

Buchwald tabled {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts} for two pair and the big blind mucked his hand dejectedly.

More familiar faces have joined the field, which has grown to 112 so far.

Alejandro Vasquez Flops the Nuts

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Action folded around to the player on the button, and he raised to 425. Alejandro Vasquez called from the small blind, and the player in the big blind three-bet to 1,500. The button and Vasquez both called.

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Vasquez checked. The big blind bet 3,000, and the button folded. Vasquez wasted no time and check-raised to 6,000. The big blind quickly called.

The turn was the {5-Hearts}. Vasquez led out for 12,000, and the big blind moved all in for her last 15,100. Vasquez snap-called, tabling {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for the nuts with a straight to the queen. The big blind tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for top set, but was unable to fill up when the {7-Clubs} hit the river. Vasquez earned the pot and the elimination.

Javier Swett Takes Another Shot

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Javier Swett
Javier Swett

Javier Swett just walked in to the Ballroom here at Enjoy Casino, and received at least a handful of high-fives and hugs on the way to his table. He is clearly a well-known player in these parts, hailing from right here in Vina del Mar, Chile.

Swett fired the High Roller event a few days ago, and also took a shot on Day 1a yesterday. It is expected that Swett will be fighting hard to get that elusive first tournament win under his belt.

Swett seems to be a successful online player, with cashes totaling just over $1,665,000. The majority of those earnings coming from PokerStars, where he goes by the online name 'Ofbravetight'.

Leandro Schmidt Doubles Up in an Early Setup Hand

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player in early position limped in, as well as a player on the button. Gustavo Moscon was in the small blind and raised to 450. Leandro Schmidt was in the big blind and three-bet to 1,400. Both callers folded and Moscon called.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Moscon checked. Schmidt bet 1,050 and Moscon, check-raised to 3,800. Schmidt called.

The turn was the {9-Spades} and Moscon led out for 6,600. Schmidt went into the tank for two minutes before deciding to call.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Moscon announced all in. Schmidt, snap-called and quickly tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for the ace high flush. Moscon, with a bewildered look on his face, showed {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for the king high flush. The entire table said, "wow, cooler!" all at the same time.

Fabian Chauriye Seeks Redemption

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Chile's Fabian Chauriye has entered the field and looks to best his runner-up finish in the Latin America Poker Tour Main Event last March, where he earned $110,000 for his largest career cash.

Chauriye seems to do progressively better each year, as he made the final table in the very same tournament the year before in 2015, finishing in sixth place for $39,620.

He seemed to have had a successful year in 2016, as he also went deep in the PCA Main Event, finishing in 16th place for a payout of $36,860.

Leor Wasserman Jumps Into the Mix All the Way From Canada!

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The field has been made up of mostly South Americans, but Canada's Leor Wasserman decided to shake things up and travel from North America to play some poker!

Canada is known to be cold, and while it is summer up north, it is currently winter here. Hopefully for Chile's sake, Wasserman hasn't brought any snow with him.

Here is a look at some of the players who have jumped in early on Day 1b:
