Quads for Kapur

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Virenjit Kapur
Virenjit Kapur

We missed the pre-flop action but caught PokerStars Open Event #2 champion Virenjit Kapur involved in a hand on a flop of {5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} just as Kapur (early position) checked the action over to his opponent who was sitting in late position and led for 700, which Kapur called.

The {8-Hearts} turn saw Kapur check again and his opponent bet another 700, which Kapur again called.

The {a-Hearts} river saw Kapur reach for chips and he fired for 5,000, sending his opponent into the tank where he remained for a good three minutes before tossing out the call.

“Quads!” said Kapur, rolling over {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} to take the pot and climb to 27,000.

Kapoor Doubles Lim

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante

We arrived on a flop of {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} with 2,000 in the pot in a three-way hand between Pranay Kapoor, Wee Lee Lim and Bach Hoang Nguyen.

Kapoor, sitting in early position had just checked the action over to Lim, who fired for 1,500. Nguyen called from the button before Kapoor check-raised to 11,500 in total.

Lim quickly called off the rest of his chips, Nguyen folded and the cards were turned over.

Pranay Kapoor: {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Wee Lee Lim: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

“I’d rather have your hand,” joked Kapoor when the cards were revealed and while the India player held the lead Lim was drawing extremely live.

The {4-Hearts} turn was no help but the {q-Diamonds} river saw Lim take the lead and the double-up, climbing to 21,500 while Kapoor took a hit and dropped to 11,400.

Choi Takes One Down

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Korea’s Kwangyeop Choi opened the action from early position with a raise to 525 and action folded around to Michael Falcon on the button (who is on his second bullet already) who called.

However, when the action got around to big blind Akash Chandrashekhar the Indian player squeezed to 2,200 in total. That did not quite have the desired effect of thinning the field as both Choi and Falcon called.

Chandrashekhar led for 2,500 on the {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop and Choi reached for raising chips, making it 7,500 to go, which brought speedy folds from both Falcon and Chandrashekhar.

Oh Wow! Oh Kills Kumar and Falcon in One Hand

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Vikram Kumar
Vikram Kumar

The field in the Main Event has grown to 70 entrants, 65 of whom are still in the running. Two of the early casualties were Michael Falcon and Vikram Kumar, who have both recently fallen at the hands of Junhwan Oh, in the same hand.

It was Kumar who was the man to kick start the action with a raise to 350 from middle position with Oh making the call before a short stacked Michael Falcon moved all-in from the cutoff for 3,500 in total.

A player on the button made the call, as did both Kumar and Oh and the flop came down {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}.

This is where the fireworks happened and Kumar, first to act, led for 7,000 before Oh raised to 14,500. After the button got out of the way Kumar moved all-in for 22,500 in total and sent Oh deep into the tank.

Eventually, the Korean player made the call and the cards were turned over.

Vikram Kumar: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Junhwan Oh: {10-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Michael Falcon: {7-}{7-}

The {a-Clubs} turn put Kumar in the lead, but not for long as the {q-Hearts} river completed Oh’s gutshot straight draw, winning the Korean player the monster pot and sending both Kumar and Falcon to the rail in one fell swoop.

Narula Picks Off Li

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Vijay Narula
Vijay Narula

We arrived at Vijay Narula’s table just in time to see the Australian-based Indian player open the action to 550 from early position, picking up a caller in Zhe Li on the button before the big blind squeezed to 2,600.

Both Narula and Li called quickly and it went three-way to a flop of {2-Spades}{j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The big blind checked, Narula led out for 3,800, Li called the button and the big blind folded to take the action heads-up to the {6-Hearts} turn.

This brought checks from both Narula and Li and the dealer peeled off the {a-Hearts} river card. Narula led for 4,000 and Li hit the think tank hard. It was a good two minutes of solid tanking before Li reached for chips, but they were not for calling with and he raised to 12,000 in total.

Narula thought it over but evidently was not a believer and made the call. Li rolled over {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} but this was not enough to best Narula’s {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and the Indian player scooped a sizable pot.

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Tom Or-Paz may have began Day 2 of the High Roller shot Clock but it appears the Israeli had a bad run as he is now playing Day 1A of the Main Event.

The field has grown to 55, though someone has managed to chew through their entire 30,000 start stack already as just 54 players are in the running.

We have a partial player list now, with the rest of the field as follows:
