Tardif Piles Up Deep Runs; "7Phenom1991" Captures Elusive Title on Day 4

Patrick Tardif
Patrick Tardif

Twitch streamer Patrick "Egption" Tardif had a few close calls on Day 4 of the PokerStars Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP), but ultimately would come up short of winning his first title.

Event 16-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO]

Tardif's first deep run would come in Event 16-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO], when he navigated his way through a starting field of 71 total entries to make it to the final table.

Tardif would be responsible for the first final-table knockout after "cchen16" moved all in for 76,996. Tardif reshoved for 148,610 and "dsquirrels," winner of Event 13 on Day 3, called to put both players at risk. Tardif's two queens held on against "cchen16"'s nines and the ace-ten of "dsquirrels" as he doubled up and sent "cchen16" to the virtual rail in eighth place.

Giancarlo "thepokerlife" Santolin was the next to fall after moving all in for 318,354 with ace-queen but running into the queens of "7Phenom1991." "FireFaux" doubled up "TeeWee55," then got their last 112,000 in the middle with king-eight against "dsquirrels" with ten-seven blind versus bind. "dsquirrels" flopped trip tens and "FireFaux" was eliminated in sixth place.

"dsquirrels"'s run to a second ONCOOP title would come to a sudden end when they raised to 420,000, then called a 645,829 shove from "7Phenom1991." "dsquirrels had ace-five but couldn't improve against "7Phenom1991"'s pocket tens as they doubled up to 1,300,000. "7Phenom1991" eliminated "dsquirrels" two hands later with two pair.

Tardif's tournament would come to an end when he shoved from the small blind for 338,678 with ace-five but "7Phenom1991" woke up with ace-jack in the big blind, sending Tardif out in fourth place for $1,594.

Tardif's run ends in fourth place

"7Phenom1991" then took a big chip lead when, on a jack-high flop, "bean3008" bet 246,095, "7Phenom1991" raised all in, and "bean3008" called for 340,754 with jack-ten. "7Phenom1991" had two pair, jacks and threes, to knock out "bean3008" in third place and take a 2,998,428 to 551,572 chip lead over "TeeWee55" into heads-up play.

On the last hand, "7Phenom1991" limped in, "TeeWee55" jammed for 401,572, and "7Phenom1991" called with ace-eight. "TeeWee55" was dominated with ace-five and didn't get any help as "7Phenom1991"'s eight-kicker was enough to win the pot and, after two runner-up finishes already in the series, the title.

Event 15-L: $10 5-Card PLO [6-Max]

Tardif's second run to an ONCOOP final table came in Event 15-L: $10 5-Card PLO [6-Max], which attracted a total of 255 entries.

"jeff_lynn_5" built a massive chip lead at the final table after "OMGTreyFakin" got their last 417,698 in the middle on a nine-high board with two spades. Both players had pocket aces, but "jeff_lynn_5" made a flush to eliminate "OMGTreyFakin" in fifth place and move up to more than 4,000,000, double what their three opponents had combined.

"mikelarock" put a dent in that chip lead when they moved all in for 373,000 on a flop containing two sevens. "mikelarock" had sevens full of fives, but "jeff_lynn_5" hit sevens full of eights on the turn. A king on the river improved "mikelarock" to sevens full of kings and secure a double up. "RyCoSuave" also doubled up through "jeff_lynn_5" with a flopped set of fives to crack aces.

A few hands later, Tardif was all in for 367,500 and finished with trip fives. "jeff_lynn_5" made a straight and another final table appearance would end with a fourth-place finish for Tardif.

"jeff_lynn_5" won a 1,500,000 chip pot off "mikelarock" with a flush, then, two hands later, "mikelarock" got their last 664,408 in against "RyCoSuave." "mikelarock" finished with three fives, but "RyCoSuave" made a full house, kings over fives, to eliminate "mikelarock" in third place.

"jeff_lynn_5" led 4,002,540 to 2,372,460 at the start of heads-up play and it didn't take long before the two opponents clashed in a massive pot. "jeff_lynn_5" raised to 120,000 pre-flop and "RyCoSuave" called. The flop came ten-high and "jeff_lynn_5" bet another 240,000. "RyCoSuave" called as the turn came a seven. "jeff_lynn_5" bet 720,000, "RyCoSuave" shoved for 2,412,460, and "jeff_lynn_5"called with a pair of tens to go with straight and flush draws. "RyCoSuave" had a set of threes, but a five on the river completed "jeff_lynn_5"'s straight and earned them the title.

Shaban Gets the Win in Event 11; "grandelegend7" Takes the High Roller on Day 3

Arlie Shaban
Arlie Shaban

PokerStars Team Pro Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban claimed his first title on Day 3 of the inaugural Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP).

Shaban navigated his way through a starting field of 371 entries to make the final table of Event 11-L: $30 NLHE [7-Max, Progressive KO, Monday Starter SE], eventually winning the tournament for just over $1,900.

Event 11-L: $30 NLHE [7-Max, Progressive KO, Monday Starter SE]

It would be "myrtle7" who would claim the first knockout of the final table, and in dramatic fashion. "TeeWee55" was all in for 503,136 with two queens and up against "myrtle7" with sevens. The flop gave both players a set, but "myrtle7" spiked the one-outer to make quads on the river to send out "TeeWee55" in seventh place.

Shaban won a 2,000,000 chip pot against "myrtle7" with a pair of kings to take the chip lead. "myrtle7" lost another big pot when "evilstepsis" was all in for 724,703 with ace-king and won a coin flip against jacks as "myrtle7" went from chip leader to short stack.

"Lacey411" would finish in sixth, moving all in for 338,091 on the turn with top pair of tens. "evilstepsis" called with a straight draw and hit a pair of queens on the river to collect the bounty. Shaban eliminated "dclu98" in fifth after they three-bet shoved for 696,293 with ace-five and Shaban called with ace-queen.

Shaban had the chip lead four-handed but was a spectator as his opponents got involved in a massive three-way all in. "evilstepsis" shoved 917,577 with ace-king, "FearScott" re-shoved with ace-ten, and "myrtle7" called for 1,221,870 with ace-queen. "evilstepsis" hit a king to triple up while "myrtle7" took the side pot.

On the next hand, "myrtle7" and Shaban saw the turn on a king-high board with three clubs. "myrtle7" shoved for 601,086 and Shaban called with a pair of kings, only for "myrtle7" to show pocket aces. A fourth club on the river improved Shaban to a flush and sent "myrtle7" to the rail in fourth place, leaving Shaban a massive chip leader at the start of three-handed play.

Shaban took most pots with pre-flop raises until both opponents fell under 10 big blinds. "FearScott" eventually shoved and "evilstepsis" called for 636,212 with sevens. "FearScott had jack-ten and paired a ten on the flop to reach heads-up, Shaban holding a 7,757,290 to 1,517,710 chip lead.

"FearScott" would double up against three-betting to 720,000, then calling an all-in shove for their last 1,815,900 with king-jack. Up against Shaban's two eights, "FearScott" hit a king on the flop to win the pot and take the chip lead. Shaban retook the lead when "FearScott" called a bet of 1,040,000 on the river and Shaban showed down a pair of jacks in a 4,000,000 chip pot.

"FearScott" doubled up again with ace-nine to king-queen, but their luck would soon run out. On what would be the final hand of the tournament, with blinds at 50,000-100,000, "FearScott" raised to 220,000, Shaban shoved, and "FearScott"called for 2,781,520 with two nines. Shaban had ace-jack and flopped two pair as the popular Twitch streamer won his first ONCOOP title.

Event 8-H: $1,000 NLHE [8-Max, Sunday Special - High Roller]

Play resumed in Event 8-H: $1,000 NLHE [8-Max, Sunday Special - High Roller] with 10 remaining out of a starting field of 79 entries.

Once the final table of eight was reached, "poolhaller" bluffed the river with king-high and was called by chip leader "Iri$hPoet" with a straight, then got their last 190,595 in with ace-three against Michael "WalmartCNXN" Farrow's ace-queen. Both players made two pair, but Farrow's queen-kicker played to make "poolhaller" the first casualty of the final table.

Matthew "Sucra7" Gillingham, champion of Event 6, was seeking his second ONCOOP title in as many days but lost to "grandelegend7" after calling a 537,776 shove with ace-ten that couldn't beat two queens. Gillingham dropped down to a short stack before getting his last 362,423 in with six-seven from the small blind. "mustanggino" in the big blind woke up with ace-king and sent Gillingham to the virtual rail in seventh.

Farrow doubled up twice against "fuzztacular," first with two sevens against ace-jack, then getting his last 911,722 in the middle with ace-king against nines. Farrow flopped two pair and left "fuzztacular," who began the day second in chips, as a short stack before eventually busting in sixth.

"mustanggino" would finish in fifth after calling a blind versus blind shove from Jeffrey "Jefffrr8" Reardon with ace-six. They needed to hold against Reardon's ten-nine, but Reardon flopped a straight to earn the knockout. Two hands later, Reardon would take the chip lead after winning a 1,800,000 chip pot off "Iri$hPoet" with aces.

Farrow would get his last 488,071 in the middle from under the gun with ace-queen as "grandelegend7" called in the big blind with ace-nine. Farrow had his opponent dominated and was in a good position to double up, but "grandelegend7" spiked a nine on the river to send Farrow out in fourth.

Reardon and "grandelegend7" got involved in a pre-flop raising war at the start of three-handed play, Reardon raising to 245,000 from the small blind before "grandelegend7" three-bet to 595,000. Reardon reraised to 980,000 and "grandelegend7" shoved for 2,475,576. Reardon folded and showed a seven, while "grandelegend7" flashed a three as they took the pot and the chip lead.

On the next hand, Reardon called "Iri$hPoet"'s shove for 1,278,043 with ace-king of hearts versus tens. Reardon flopped the nut flush while "Iri$hPoet" made a set. The board didn't pair on the turn and river as "Iri$hPoet," who spent most of the final table as a massive chip leader, was eliminated in third place.

Reardon led 4,461,924 to 3,438,076 at the start of heads-up play before another raising war ended with "grandelegend7" all in with kings against queens. A king on the turn left Reardon drawing dead as "grandelegend7" raked in the massive pot.

Shortly afterward, "grandelegend7" limped in, then called when Reardon raised to 248,000. The flop contained a seven-four-three and Reardon continued for 360,000. "grandelegend7" called, then called another bet of 407,880 when the turn brought another four. Reardon shoved for 831,468 on the king river and "grandelegend7" called with ace-four for trips. Reardon could only one six-deuce for a busted straight draw as "grandelegend7" secured the victory and $17,875.50 prize following a heads-up deal.

"7Phenom1991" Has Two Near-Misses in the Same Event on Day 2

Timothy Rutherford
Timothy Rutherford

There were two versions of Event 7: NLHE [8-Max, ONCOOP Warm-Up] held on Day 2 of the PokerStars Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP), one a $500 buy-in and the other featuring a $30 buy-in. They were two separate events, but had one remarkable thing in common: "7Phenom1991" battling for the title.

Event 7-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, ONCOOP Warm-Up]

A total of 72 entries took to the virtual felt for the high buy-in version of Event 7, creating a prize pool of $33,984. The final table of eight was a reunion of sorts, as Event 2 champion Steve "BetrThanPhil" Tripp and "Feath21", who defeated Tripp to win Event 3, both navigated their way through the field.

There wouldn't be a second title for either of them, however, as they were the first two casualties. On his last hand, Tripp limped in pre-flop, then called all in for his last 296,828 when big blind "7Phenom1991" shoved. Tripp was ahead with ace-queen against king-three, but "7Phenom1991" rivered a king to end Tripp's tournament in eighth place.

A short time later, "Feath21" three-bet shoved for 116,036 with ace-ten but ran into "7Phenom1991"'s kings to finish in seventh. "7Phenom1991" continued their steamroll of the final table by eliminating the next two years, "allenshen" in sixth with ace-king to ace-seven, then hitting a straight with king-queen to send out "Sesh-Man" in fifth.

"FireFaux" went out in fourth after losing a race with jacks to king-queen, leaving "7Phenom1991" three-handed with Timothy "TruthBeTold7" Rutherford and Christopher "UncleAnte9" Lockhart. Rutherford doubled up after calling a four-bet shove from Lockhart and winning with two tens against pocket sixes. The two players then got into a post-flop raising war that ended with Lockhart all in for 425,478 with a straight draw and the nut flush draw against Rutherford's pair of fours. The turn and river bricked out and Lockhart was eliminated in third place.

"7Phenom1991" took the chip lead heads-up before Rutherford doubled up with ace-king to ace-six. On the final hand, "7Phenom1991" shoved 440,620 with king-eight and was called by Rutherford holding deuces. "7Phenom1991" didn't get any help on the board and had to settle for second place as Rutherford took the title and $10,559.69.

Final hand
Final hand

But that wasn't the only close call "7Phenom1991" would have on Day 2. At the same time as they were battling Rutherford and Lockhart, they made it to heads-up in the $30 buy-in version of Event 7 before again coming up short as "1P1O1K1E1R1" beat a field of 287 players for the title.

Gillingham Takes Down Event 6

Event 6-H: $200 NLHE [7-Max, Progressive KO] drew a total of 153 players, and it was Matthew "Sucra71" Gillingham who emerged with the title.

Gillingham eliminated "LacesOut8" in third place after "LacesOut8" limped from the small blind, Gillingham raised to 200,000, and "LacesOut8" shoved for 2,136,947. Gillingham called with ace-jack but was behind ace-king. He picked up a flush draw heading to the river, which came a jack to give him the 4,000,000 chip pot and the knockout.

Taking a massive 5,682,446 to 1,967,554 chip lead into heads-up against "The Cooker," who won a SCOOP title in 2012, Gillingham shoved all in with jack-three and "The Cooker" called with king-jack. A three on the flop gave Gillingham the lead, and while "The Cooker" picked up an open-ended straight draw on the turn, they couldn't hit on the river as Gillingham collected the title and $2,333.11 top prize, as well as $3,535.92 in bounties.

On Day 1 of the inaugural PokerStars Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP), Steve "BetrThanPhil" Tripp finished runner-up to "Feath21" in Event 3. He was back at it today on Day 2, and this time he wouldn't be denied.

Event 2-H: $300 NLHE [7-Max]

Play resumed in Event 2-H: $300 NLHE [7-Max] with nine players remaining out of a starting field of 85. Tripp began the day in seventh place but knocked out "BobbyW519" with ace-queen against ten-nine, fading a straight draw on the river to climb above 2,200,000 and take a massive chip lead four-handed.

Tripp began applying pressure to the three short stacks, stealing the blinds with all-in shoves before "allenshen" called for their last 277,886 with ace-nine against Tripp's pocket fours. "allenshen" hit an ace on the flop, but Tripp also hit a four to make a set and eliminate "allenshen" in fourth place.

Just two hands later, Giancarlo "thepokerlife" Santolin got their last 389,019 in with king-queen and was up against Tripp holding ace-ten. Santolin found a queen on the flop to take the lead, but Tripp rivered an ace to score another knockout.

Heads-up play would last just one hand. "cchen16" shoved for 403,414 with king-queen and Tripp called with ace-nine. A queen on the flop gave "cchen16" the lead, but Tripp would again river an ace to close out the tournament and take home the title and $6,829.42 first prize.

Event 1-H: $200 NLHE [8-Max, ONCOOP Kickoff]

Event 1-H: $200 NLHE [8-Max, ONCOOP Kickoff] resumed with eight players making it to the final table out of a starting field of 120 entries, including Charbel "KING BAIT" Kanterjian and PokerStars Team Pro Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban.

Shaban would be the first casualty of the day after he moved all in for 124,448 on the flop with a straight draw but couldn't improve against Kanterjian's ace-high. "edoiler" eliminated short-stack "averageVlad" in seventh place.

"edoiler" would also claim the next knockout after Luke "Bananazoo" Chiciak three-bet shoved for 463,415 with two threes and ran into "edoiler"'s kings. A king on the flop essentially sealed it, and a three on the river was too late for Chiciak to avoid elimination. "edoiler" also took out "Sesh-Man," limping in pre-flop with two fives, then calling an all-in shove of 164,410. "Sesh-Man," holding ace-ten, couldn't connect with the board and hit the virtual rail in fifth place.

After a lengthy four-handed battle, "flettl2" raised to 70,000, "edoiler" three-bet to 245,000, and Kanterjian four-bet shoved. "flettl2" called for 1,008,566 as "edoiler" got out of the way. "flettl2" had two jacks and needed to hold against Kanterjian's ace-king, but a king fell on the flop and "flettl2" was eliminated in fourth place.

Kanterjian built up a sizeable chip lead, but "edoiler" would bring him back to the pack after doubling up with ace-jack against ten-eight. "ryanmjmahone" would also double up after shoving all in on an ace-high board with three hearts. "edoiler" called with a pair of tens, but "ryanmjmahone" showed two hearts for the flush.

The next hand, "edoiler" got their last 956,764 in the middle against Kanterjian with king-queen but couldn't beat ace-five as Kanterjian took a 4,184,872 to 1,815,128 chip lead over "ryanmjmahone" into heads-up play.

"ryanmjmahone" would double up after being all in with ace-nine against king-ten, flopping top pair and holding on through the turn and river, but the turning point would come a few hands later. On an ace-king-high board, "ryanmjmahone" bet 159,000, Kanterjian raised to 525,000, and "ryanmjmahone" moved all in for 1,436,176. Kanterjian called with two pair, kings and deuces, but "ryanmjmahone" showed ace-king for aces and kings. Another ace on the river improved "ryanmjmahone" to a full house and put a massive dent in Kanterjian's stack.

"ryanmjmahone" Coolers Kanterjian to Double

"ryanmjmahone" doubled up again after catching Kanterjian bluffing with ace-high as they took the pot with top pair of jacks. On the final hand, Kanterjian moved all in for 766,436 with ten-three and "ryanmjmahone" called with ace-four. A ten on the flop left Kanterjian in position for a double up, but "ryanmjmahone" rivered a flush to win the title.

"Feath27" Emerges Victorious; Kanterjian, Shaban Headline Final Table on Day 1 of ONCOOP

Charbel Kanterjian
Charbel Kanterjian

Poker players in Ontario got their first chance to compete for a PokerStars title when the inaugural Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP) began on Saturday.

Event 3-H: $100 No-Limit Hold'em [8-Max, Progressive KO]

Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban, the popular Twitch streamer and PokerStars Team Pro, kicked off the series with two final table appearances. One would come in Event 3-H: $100 No-Limit Hold'em [8-Max, Progressive KO] as Shaban navigated his way through a field of 185 entries.

But it would prove to be a short one. Shaban shoved his last 114,405 from the button with king-nine and was snapped off by big blind "degausser88" holding two aces. The flop contained a king and a nine to give Shaban two pair, but it also had an ace as "degausser88" made top set to send Shaban out in eighth place, good for $197.27 and $323.83 in bounties.

"Feath21" secured a massive double up through "everboar" with aces against ace-queen to approach 2,000,000 and take a massive chip lead over the rest of the table five-handed. "degausser88" would win a three-way all-in pot worth 1,563,920 when, holding king-jack, he outflopped Steve "BetrThanPhil" Tripp and "everboar" both holding ace-jack.

Left with just 214,809 after the hand, Tripp would double up with two nines to climb back into contention. "TedDebiosi" fell in fifth place after running into a massive cooler, his king-high flush coming up short against the nut flush of "everboar." "degausser88" was eliminated in fourth when they called all in for 347,566 with two nines before "everboar" rivered another ace-high flush.

Tripp would make a flush on "everboar" to send them out in third place and take a 3,096,448 to 1,528,552 chip lead over "Feath21" into heads-up play. Tripp, whose $3.8 million in online winnings include a SCOOP title in 2018, missed a chance to close out this title when he couldn't connect on the board with queen-jack against ace-deuce, "Feath21" finishing with a full house to double up.

"Feath21" would double up again after calling their last 625,657 on the river with two pair, nines and sixes, to beat Tripp's top pair of aces. On the final hand, "Feath21" shoved from the button and Tripp called for 627,272 with ace-eight. "Feath21" held two fours and won the coin flip to earn the title and $1,341.98 top prize to go along with $2,087.34 in bounties.
