Burtin Goes Runner-Runner to Bust Bartholmes

Level 23 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Julian Bartholmes
Julian Bartholmes

A shout of anguish went up from Table 30, and it soon became clear it had come from Julian Bartholmes.

Bartholmes was all-in with 88, and had flopped a set on A87. His opponent, Nicolas Burtin had J10, and got there on the river via the 9 turn and 6 river for a one-card straight, it being unclear precisely when the chips hit the middle.

What was clear was that Bartholmes was absolutely devastated with the outcome, a look of pure heartbreak on his face.

A pot of 500,000 had developed by the river on a board of J7210Q, in a hand between Charly Geurinckx on the button and Henrik Veldhoen in the big blind.

Veldhoen checked, and his opponent fired out a bet of 175,000.

After some time in the tank, Veldhoen made the call, and his Q8 for a rivered pair of queens was good versus Geurinckx's 65, both players previously chasing the flush draw.
