Earlier this year, PokerStars US announced the return of live tournaments, hosting three weekends of poker action in the inaugural Summer Series at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia.

Event #1: $550 No-Limit Hold’em has been a huge success already. There have been four flights over the past two days with a total of 631 players taking their shot at the large guarantee and a total of 79 players moving on to Day 2. That $200,000 guarantee was smashed halfway through the third flight yesterday. There is already $296,570 in the prize pool with today’s flight still waiting to kick off. All indications are that this will be the largest flight of them all. There is a real possibility that the guarantee will be doubled by day’s end.

Multiple players have already bagged some big stacks to take with them to Day 2. Among them are Day 1c chip leader John Cipriano (578,000), 1b chip leader Alesandro Jimenes (576,500), and Day 1a chip leader Vitaly Kovyazin (509,000). However, as the battle raged on late last night in Flight 1d there were some serious fireworks and the overwhelming chip leader is currently Sridhar Sangannagari, who bagged an incredible 971,000 chips.

All players that found a bag will return on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. to battle it out for their share of the prize pool and the coveted PokerStars Spadie Trophy. Today’s flight will be everyone’s last shot at making Day 2 so don’t miss out!

Tauss Gets a Great Flop

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

A player in early position opened to 300. Erica Tauss put in a three-bet to 1,100. The action folded to the small blind, who cold-called and the original raiser came along too.

The players were three ways to a flop of Q56 and action checked to Tauss, who put out another bet of 1,600. Only the small blind called.

The 7 landed on the turn and the small blind check-called another bet from Tauss of 3,000.

The river 9 put four to a straight on board and it was checked to Tauss once more. She thought over her options but eventually checked back and saw the good news. The small blind tabled AQ for top pair, top kicker and Tauss tabled QQ for a flopped top set.

Tauss scooped the pot to get a much needed influx of chips early on.

Dang Cracks Aces

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Action was joined on a flop of 697. The small blind checked over to Anh Dang in late position, who put out a bet of 1,100. The small blind only thought for a moment before putting in a check-raise to the tune of 3,500. Dang quickly called.

The 2 landed on the turn and the small blind open-jammed, having Dang covered. Dang sat in the tank for about 30 seconds before putting in the chips for her tournament life.

The cards hit their backs.

Anh Dang: 67
Small Blind: AA

Dang needed to dodge an Ace, nine, or deuce to get the pure double. The river landed a 4 and Dang scooped a big one early.
