Day 1c of the 2020 Potomac Winter Poker Open $3,000 Main Event started at 6 p.m. local time today which was be the last chance for players to make it through to Day 2 to win their share of the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool that has already been surpassed at the MGM National Harbor. On Day 1a, 80 entries were collected with 15 players making it through to Day 2 and Day 1b had 149 entries with 34 surviving which means that there are already 49 players who had made it to the next stage.

Day 1c had a bit of a different set-up than the first two starting flights as it was split up in two parts. Today the players played the first nine levels and the remaining 24 players out of 55 entries will return at noon, Sunday, February 16 to play the last four 45-minute levels of Day 1c. The late registration and single reentry period remains open until the first cards go in the air.

When play ends, those players who made it through the final hurdles will be thrown into the mix with the other 49 players for Day 2 which will resume shortly after. The expectation is that this will be around 3:30 p.m. local time. The level duration will be increased to 60 minutes each on Day 2 until the final table of nine as the levels will then go up to 75 minutes. Play on Day 2 will continue until there are six players left or until 2 a.m.

For now it is Dave Alfa in the lead for Day 1c with 273,200. He is followed by David Olshan (253,900), Cordero Hines (197,000), Melanie Hennigan (165,700), and Richard Weinhold with 150,700. But players like Darren Elias, Elia Ahmadian, Faisal Siddiqui, Justin Liberto, Phong Nguyen, and Christian Harder also found a bag for tomorrow.

PokerNews will be covering Day 1c from the restart until it is known who else makes Day 2 and then continue with the Day 2 coverage so make sure to come back at noon!

Play Ended

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The players have bagged up their chips for the final four levels of Day 1c which will be continued at noon on Sunday, February 16.

The chip counts and recap are to follow.

Gilliam Doubles in the Last Hand of the Night

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Pearce Arnold (under-the-gun) and Johnathon Gilliam (middle position) were heads-up in the last hand of the night and all the chips had gone in pre-flop with Gilliam at risk for his last 34,200.

Johnathon Gilliam: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Pearce Arnold: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for Arnold to hit a set.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} for Gilliam to have a glimmer of hope as he picked up the flush draw.

The river completed the board with the {8-Diamonds} for Gilliam to hit the flush indeed to be able to bag up for the continuation of Day 1c.

Gilliam Doubles Up Again

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Johnathon Gilliam
Johnathon Gilliam

Johnathon Gilliam shoved from the hijack for 28,000 and was called by Timothy Glab on the button while the blinds folded.

Johnathon Gilliam: {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Timothy Glab: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The flop came {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for Glab to stay ahead but for Gilliam to pick up the open-ended straight draw to stay alive. A jack on the turn on the river, however, would give Glab the higher straight.

The turn as the {k-Clubs} which didn't change things and neither did the {a-Hearts} on the river as Gilliam doubled up to stay alive.
