Daniels' River Raise Shuts Down Opponent

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

With more than 10,000 already in the pot, a player on the small blind bet 2,000 on the river of a {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs} board.

Daniels, on the button, thought it over for awhile before raising to 30,000. The overbet promted a fold from the small blind, at put Daniels at just about 100k as the second break approaches.

Guevara's Overbet Gets It Done

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

With what appeared to be about 20,000 already in the pot, the player in the hijack checked to Nick Guevara on a {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} board.

Guevara, on the cutoff, put in an overbet, making it 35,000 to go. The hijack went into the tank for awhile before folding, and with that big pot Guevara is over the 100k mark on Day 1a.

Cory Tardy Claims RIU Reno IX Short Deck Title

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

While PokerNews is focused on bringing you live updates from the $600 Main Event, we also wanted to share some winner news from earlier in the Run It Up Reno IX. There have been several champions crowned at the Peppermill, and tens of thousands of dollars awarded.

For instance, in Event #6: $235 Short Deck Double Stack, 116 runners surpassed the $15K GTD by creating a $22,504 prize pool that was paid to the top 19 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Jon Turner (11th - $500), Michael Trivett (12th - $500), Sarah Sherman (16th - $400), and Austin Roberts (19th - $400).

In the end, Cory Tardy of Las Vegas, a regular at RIU Reno, finally broke through to win his first RIU trophy, good for $5,690 in prize money.

Joel Danforth
Joel Danforth

Michael Trivett raised to 1,000 from the hijack, and was called by Joel Danforth on the button and Rian Mullins in the big blind.

All three players checked the {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop, and the {a-Diamonds} fell on the turn. Action checked to Danforth, who bet 1,000. Only Trivett called.

Both remaining players checked the {8-Spades} river, and Danforth tabled {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Trivett mucked.
