The Talented Mr. Richter

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Bill Richter raised to 2,000 from under the gun, and was called by Timothy Guilford on the button, as well as the big blind.

The big blind checked the {7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop to Richter, who bet 2,000. Both Guilford and the big blind called.

The {3-Diamonds} turn was checked again by the big blind, and Richter fired 5,000. Only the big blind called.

Both players checked the {6-Clubs} river, and Richter tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, good for the pot as the big blind mucked.

The small blind bet 1,500 on the {2-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, and Turner quickly called.

Both players checked down the {k-Spades} turn and {6-Clubs} river, and the small blind tabled {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Turner had that beat with his {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and took down the pot.

While PokerNews is focused on bringing you live updates from the $600 Main Event, we also wanted to share some winner news from earlier in the Run It Up Reno IX. There have been several champions crowned at the Peppermill, and tens of thousands of dollars awarded.

“Eighty-five into thirty-thousand!” That was the exclamation of John Gribben as he hoisted the $440 Mini Main Event trophy at Run It Up Reno IX.

Gribben won his way into the 409-entry tournament by way of an $85 satellite Friday, bagging Saturday’s Day 1 flight and grinding his way to the tournament victory on Day 2 Sunday. Gribben took home $30,000 for the first-place finish, the biggest score of his career.

“How can I put it into words? It’s f***ing incredible,” said an elated Gribben. “It’s a dream come true. I’ve been trying to get to this spot for a while.”

Gribben, who’s currently living in his van and traveling to play poker, scored his second five-figure cash of the past month with the win. He outlasted runner-up Chris Lindner in heads-up play, with Lindner taking home $18,600 for the second-place finish.

“I live in my van now, and I travel around. My goal was to play poker for a living, and live in my van. And reduce my life overhead to so little that I could play poker. And not be great at it, but be good at it. This helps a lot.”

Finks Jams on Gavin

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Domonic Finks limped in from middle position, Lexy Gavin completed her small blind, and the big blind checked his option.

Gavin bet 800 on the {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop, and the big blind folded. Finks raised to 1,700, and Gavin called.

Gavin check-called a bet of 2,600 on the {j-Spades} turn, and the {9-Spades} fell on the river. Gavin checked again, and with both hands, Finks flung his last 21,300 in the pot, saying, "I don't know what else to do!" as he did.

Gavin tanked for a few minutes, and near the end of the tank, Finks told Gavin, "I'll show you one." Gavin folded shortly after, and selected the {k-Diamonds} from Finks' hand before he raked in the pot.

King Fills Up Against a Straight Draw

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

Jessica King checked a {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} board from the small blind, and her lone opponent in the cutoff bet 6,000 into a similarly sized pot. King check-raised all in for 15,600, and her opponent called.

Jessica King: {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}

"Open-ender always hits!" King's opponent said.

The {j-Diamonds} river instead hit King, giving her jacks-full and the win.

"Easy money!" King's opponent said with a playful smirk, as King pulled in the double.
