Oatman's Big Slick Does the Trick

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante

There was 4,000 already in the pot when Jesse Capps checked a {5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop from the small blind. Shane Oatman bet 2,000 from under the gun, and after Jim Petzing folded on the button, Capps made the call.

Both players checked the {3-Diamonds} turn, and the {a-Clubs} fell on the river. Capps led out for 2,500 and Oatman called. Capps tabled {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, but Oatman had him outkicked with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

Good Start Goes Bad For Pekarek

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
John-Paul Portal
John-Paul Portal

$235 Progressive Knockout champ John-Paul Portal raised to 1,200 from the hijack, and was called by the cutoff. The small blind three-bet to 4,500, and $1,100 Thursday Thrilla runner-up Jeremy Pekarek called in the big blind. Portal four-bet shoved for around 35,000, and the cutoff quickly folded, as did the small blind.

"I had a really good start to my day," Pekarek said with a shrug, before calling off his last 25,000.

Jeremy Pekarek: {8-Spades}{7-Spades}
John-Paul Portal: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Pekarek's gamble looked like it would pay big dividends after the {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop gave him an open-ender to go with his live cards. He bricked off on the {j-Clubs} turn and {2-Hearts} river, however, and he said, "Too many outs? Too many outs." before heading to the cashier to re-enter.

Dragoo Dragging Pots

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante

Cody Dragoo opened to 1,100 from the hijack, and Alan Mastic called from the small blind.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Dragoo bet 1,000 after a check, and Mastic check-raised to 4,000. Dragoo quickly three-bet all in, having Mastic covered, and Mastic snap called.

Alan Mastic: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
Cody Dragoo: {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Dragoo was behind in hand strength but ahead in equity, as a 54 percent favorite going into the turn and river with his overcards and flush draw. One of those outs came home on the river, as the turn fell {a-Diamonds} and the river {j-Hearts}, sending Mastic to the rail.

On the following hand, Dragoo opened to 1,100 from middle position, Chris Lindner three-bet to 3,200 on the button, and Dragoo called.

Lindner continued for 1,800 on the {7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Diamonds} flop, Dragoo raised to 15,000, and Lindner folded, preserving his last 500 chips.

Zhang Makes the Correct Call

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

With a considerable amount of chips already in the middle, a player in the big blind put out a 5,200 bet on a {2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

Hong Zhang went deep into the tank on the button, wondering out loud about what he might be up against. Zhang eventually made the call with {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and the call was the right one as the opponent said "you're good" and mucked.

King Keeps Climbing

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

With {q-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Spades} on the board, Jessica King faced a 6,000 bet on the river.

King made the call, showing {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for trips against her opponent's {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. King has been on the winning end of a couple of big pots in the early levels of Day 1b, and she's nearing the 40k mark in chips.
