Andy Pokrivnak in Run It Up Reno VIII Action

The big blind led out for 2,000 on a {10-Spades}{j-Clubs}{k-Spades} flop, and Andy Pokrivnak, winner of Run it Up Reno VIII's $340 Short Deck Championship, called on the button.

The {10-Diamonds} turn saw the big blind bet 5,000, and Pokrivnak called again.

Both players checked the {4-Hearts} river, and the big blind flipped over {j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Pokrivnak tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} and took down the pot.

Guilford Gets One from Kade

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With {6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds} showing on the board, Timothy Guilford bet 2,000 from the big blind, and Vanessa Kade made the call.

Kade showed a look of disappointment when Guilford showed {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, good for a rivered top pair. Kade mucked.

"I flopped a three straight flush," Guilford said. "That wasn't an ideal turn." Both players are comfortably above starting stack as Level 5 plays on.

Jim Petzing during Run It Up Reno VIII
Jim Petzing during Run It Up Reno VIII

Hand #1:

Patrick Tardif raised to 700 from the hijack, and was called by the cutoff, as well as Run It Up Reno VIII $235 No-Limit Hold'em Pro Bounty champ Jim Petzing in the big blind.

Action checked through the {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop, and Petzing bet 1,000 on the {q-Hearts} turn. Tardif and the cutoff folded.

The hijack limped in, and Petzing raised to 1,500 on the button. The hijack called.

The {3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop was checked by the hijack, and Petzing bet 2,500. The hijack called.

On the {9-Hearts} turn, the hijack checked again, and Petzing fired 6,000, leaving himself just 7,300 behind. The hijack folded, and Petzing showed {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} before bringing in the pot.

Smith Shows the Set

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

Giau Trinh opened to 8000 under the gun, Jerod Smoth called from the hijack, and both blinds also made the call.

All four players checked on a {9-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop. The turn brought the {2-Hearts}, Trinh bet 1,400, and Smith raised to 4,500. Both blinds folded, and Trinh made the call.

Trinh checked the {4-Clubs} river, and Smith put out a pair of red T5000 chips for a 10,000 bet. Trinh looked up from the table and went into the tank for a bit, eventually electing to fold.

Smith turned over {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}, showing Trinh that he had hit the set of deuces on the turn.

Preston Sends a Double to Gribben

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

Patrick Preston raised to 1,000 on the button, and John Gribben called in the small blind.

Gribben checked the {2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop to Preston, who bet 1,200. Gribben called.

The {q-Clubs} turn was checked again by Gribben, and Preston bet 2,300. Gribben check-raised to 4,600, and Preston called.

Gribben jammed for his last 12,500, sending Preston into the tank. He took the 12,500 needed to call, and sat his remaining 27,500 in chips to the side, placing a tiny Thor's Hammer on top of them as he tanked. Two minutes later, he slid in the 12,500, and Gribben tabled {q-Spades}{10-Spades} for queens-up. Preston could only muster {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for top pair, top kicker, and Gribben doubled up.
