Stanford Takes Hit as Owens Scoops
Level 12
: Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
A three-way all-in broke out preflop as Brandon Owens was at risk for 74,500 from the hijack, while a player from early position was at risk for less. Cody Stanford had both covered as they went to showdown.
Opponent: 10♣9♦
Brandon Owens: A♥A♣
Cody Stanford: Q♥Q♣
Owens held the lead with his pocket aces, but against two opponents, it was far from a certainty what could happen with five cards to go.
The flop firmly planted Owens in the lead when it came A♠K♣3♣ to give him top set and a dominant lead.
Stanford hit his queen on the Q♦ turn, but was still in need of a miracle to take the pot.
Owens secured the pot on the 7♥ river to avoid disaster late on Day 1a.
