Chadd Johnson Bags Overall Chip Lead Heading Into Day 2

Chadd Johnson - Day 1 chip leader
Chadd Johnson - Day 1 chip leader

It was a long day of poker at the Downstream Casino Resort as the RunGoodGear.com Poker Series Main Event saw a total of 233 entrants take to the tables and only 39 of them moving on to return for Day 2. The Day 1c numbers saw 122 entrants and 21 survivors bringing the total numbers for the three starting flights to 328 entrants with 55 of those moving on to Day 2. Only the top 36 will make the money, so there's still some work to be done before players can get some of their hard-earned money back.

Chadd Johnson bagged the chip lead for Day 1c with 281,000 in chips, joining Day 1b chip leader Lou Barlow (253,000) and Day 1a chip leader Darren Attebery (250,000) atop the chip counts. Rounding out the top three from Day 1c were Saied Moradi (272,500) and John Reynolds (246,000).

Also moving on from Day 1c were Patrick Dorothy (145,500), Matt Ellis (139,500), Suzanne Cooley (139,000), Randy Fikki (118,500), Jody Nittler (92,500), Mike Rieck (56,500), Jamie Kerstetter (53,500), Chris Conrad (45,500), Randy Murfin (12,000), and the defending champion of this event, Mark Martin (32,500).

That group joins the Day 1b survivors which include Ryan Tepen (12,000), Ross Bybee (159,500), Chance Fitzgerald (81,000), Heather Alcorn (159,000), Chris Drake (200,000), Troy Repp (175,500), and Terry Karn (91,000).

The team at RunGoodGear.com threw an impromptu pizza party for the players in the final flight and much fun was had as players stuffed their faces while tossing poker chips into the middle of the table. RunGoodGear Team Pro Benjamin Reason joked with RunGoodGear.com CEO Tana Karn, "Thanks for slowing down the number of hands we're dealt!" as players gulped down the grub.

Despite all the fun, there were people who left a little disappointed after coming up short in their attempts to move on to Day 2. That group included Reason, Isaac Tucker, Bernard Lee, Mike Tang, Dan Lowery, Huy Nguyen, Bryan Campanello, Casey Hindman, Amanda Baker, and Michael Sanders.

The players will return at noon local time on Sunday with dreams of taking home the $43,453 first-place prize and $10,000 World Series of Poker Main Event seat. PokerNews will be there from start to finish until that winner is determined, so be sure to tune in to find out who the next RunGoodGear.com Poker Series champion is!
